Each year there are about 5100 players in women's college basketball inclusive of scholarships. In the Transfer Portal era about 1300 enter the transfer portal. 400 become grad transfers. 20% graduate. So what is the annual turnover rate per team?

Someone who is able to pose a problem of such complexity would, hopefully, also be able to solve it!!😇 So please do! PS - It requires no "New Math." GO BEAVS

GO BEAVS And, one of those "complex" problems that is truly meaningless. Each season for each team is an independent event tied to new variables. Any type of "average" would signify nothing.

Good work! You got it. 45%. Just like Scott said, the new normal is 40+ % annual turnover rate. Almost half your team is gone each year. Total game changer. You have to be on your "A" game all the time. Total changing dynamic.

If you look at my very recent post on the transfer portal thread (written before I saw this one), I think you will find a reasonable answer to the question you pose.
If you add those who run out of eligibility to those who portal out, 45% would be fairly close.

Not every situation is similar or even equal, though. Oregon State players had a chance to come off an Elite Eight run with another, potentially better, one. But the program is headed to the WCC. Some programs are losing/gaining a head coach. Some programs can offer better NIL deals than others. Money talks. Then there are the players who enter in hopes of landing in greener grass as far as playing time or due to the arrival of a player who might supplant them. Then there are players who are homesick or just found that they didn't like the school or they want to follow friends/family/significant others to another school. No matter how anyone wants to cut it, OSU's situation is unique.

This is the new off season math for coaches to consider. UCONN, UCLA, OSU coaches have agreed, it is the new world, they don't like it, but it is what it is.

Hopefully transfers will start to decrease after this season after the extra year is no longer in play.

Hopefully transfers will start to decrease after this season after the extra year is no longer in play. I honestly don't think it's going to make that much of a difference. The genie is out of the bottle. It's musical chairs after every season.

There are about 28,000 women on college rosters across NCAA I, II, II, NAIA, and Junior college. This year there are about 5,800 players classified as a Senior.

The genie is out of the bottle. It's musical chairs after every season. It will significantly lessen the number of grad transfers. Lots of players who were freshmen in the 2020-21 season (like TVO) are presently in the portal because they could play four years at their school (2021-24) and graduate but still have another season of eligibility thanks to the NCAA's stupid decision to make 2020-21 a "free" year. That won't be the case for players who were freshmen in 2021-22.
