I was never naive enough to think my modest contributions to OSU athletics made a big difference.
But I enjoyed it because I was contributing to something I believed in. Giving felt good. I believed in the players, the coaches, the program. The whole deal. Yeah, I believed in the whole deal. The whole thing called college sports.
No longer. Not the way things are now. I simply no longer believe in the whole deal.
College sports doesn't feel all that right to me anymore. I once enjoyed explaining the differences between a true college sports fan and pro sports fan. No more.
When a college athlete wears a $20,000 watch and drives a $200,000 car, I'm thru donating. When a college athlete makes more than her fully employed parents, I'm thru donating. That's it. GO BEAVS!! ----------------------

I give for program support and facility enhancement. Those can't transfer. Never for NIL.

The forest has been clear cut to the streams! Technically, I think the forest was burnt down before it could be cut, but same effect.

I always felt whatever I gave went to help the program, and by that I meant the girls, not just more money for the staff. Now I feel like most of the girls are similar to Harry Potter's cousin, who was furious because he only got 43 Christmas presents when last year he got 44. Not enough presents under the tree?; I'm outta here! Get somebody else to sit by the tree and pretend to be happy and grateful - at least until she can get a better gig too.
No mas. I'm not going to look at a new group coming in and say to myself, "These kids are different, I can just tell; I think I'll get some really nice gifts for their stockings." Rather, I'm looking at the whole women's college basketball scenario and saying, "Bah, Humbug!"
Some of you will agree with that; others will not. That's perfectly understandable. It's the way I feel, though, and I don't envision that changing any time soon.

Maybe 1 or 2 others will come around and I will add them too!

I've never written a check to a player or to a coach. I've only written them to the school.
The university has done a remarkable job navigating through incredibly difficult circumstances. It has not compromised its integrity while also aggressively pursuing our best interests. It has looked after the legitimate interests of the student-athletes. It has done right by the current coaches and made good hires where necessary. It has done everything it can to keep us playing at the highest level possible.
So I'll keep writing checks to Oregon State University.

That's valid, and I don't particularly like painting them with the same brush as the eight - particularly AJ, who will honor her commitment. Of the others, however, Kelsey and Sela have already left other programs, and the other two are just finishing their freshman year. Statistically, there's a good likelihood they'll bail at some point. And the other 7 or so Scott will add to fill out next year's roster? Every single one of them will have deserted some other school to come here. So if 7 is the number he adds, for a full 75% of the team, Oregon State will not be the school they started at. The entire process just leaves me cold.

The entire process just leaves me cold. There's a difference when a handful of players leave for various reasons. What happened to the Beavs WBB team after the elite 8 run was a complete dismantling. These players decided OSU wasn't good enough for them anymore. TVO made sure to tell us we should just be happy for them......even though they killed the program. It's complicated, right? Deeply personal. Well, that's how most of feel about Oregon State. If you're going to kill the program, don't insult us on the way out. Just go.

Some boards around women’s basketball at Oregon State would have you love the players as they leave, wish them well as they abandon ship. Well, I’m just not that magnanimous. A sage once said and I am paraphrasing, “It’s not a sign of good health to be well adjusted to a sick society.” College athletics is sick and I don’t know if it will ever recover. The fox is in the henhouse. Money rules.

When the girlfriend you bought nice things for kicks you in the nuts while dumping you, you don't have to be happy for her when she hooks up with the first guys she finds and then shows pictures on social media. Or so it feels to me. Maybe I'm just a "hater." Blacklock gets a pass. She was never going to see meaningful minutes and transferred back to her hometown. Hers was a playing-time issue. I can live with that.
