Toledo is an excellent program, has won the last 4 or 5 MAC regular-season titles. This is a good get.
Not sure we need Dexter to come back, he hasn't committed anywhere that I've seen. He'd be good depth but this guy has to start.

Illini were in on a transfer PG from there last year (went to Texas or TA&M Ithink) and a combo guard this year (not this kid) that went to Xavier. Don’t think Cochran is quite at the level of either of those two, but like you said a good get. Also will give Beavers a starting backcourt from Illinois. As to Dexter, I think I saw that both he and Chol were looking for opportunities overseas rather than transferring to another school. Not sure how accurate that is though. |

He'd be good depth but this guy has to start. Toledo won the last four MAC Regular Season Championships. Toledo also won two of three Division Championships before that. Six MAC West Championships in the past seven years. And eight MAC West Championships over the past 12 complete seasons. And yet Toledo has just been awful in the MAC Tournament. Toledo last won the MAC Tournament back in 1980. Toledo played in the NIT five years from 2014-2023, losing right away each time. |

Nice get. We need good guard play. Obviously need to see the two guard transfers play and how well they do at a higher level and mesh, but not crazy to think those two could be as good as our starting backcourt this year. Still will miss Pope’s ability to hit big shots. But love that Cochran was a co-D conference player of the year. I believe that leaves one more open spot. Interested to see what direction they go. Think we could use a 4 with some experience. Depending on how Meithof’s rehab is going and how they plan to use Rataj this year, might look for a 2 or 3 though. |

Akanno played hard sporadically, and Pope played zero defense and his assist and rebound numbers were ridiculously low for someone that athletic. Lake, Meithof, Craig, Williford, and Minor will be just fine... Sy, Ndong. Marrs, Marsh, Fallah, Rataj, Garrison give OSU decent size and solid athleticism in the front court. I see a need for another Marsh type, solid body big as the others are slight and will have trouble with other solid bigs on defense. |

I admit I have a re-kindled interest in MBB as a result of the turnover....
This revamping of the roster lets me see if perhaps the new recruits might be more "coachable": I really think WT is a quality individual, and even his level of engagement with players on the bench and coming on and off the floor makes me think he is providing coaching, just not sure if it is landing with some of the players. To your point, this crop of players "want to be here and WT's message will not be ignored".
Could be a fun season from a player and development point of view, and I believe that from a WCC standpoint the cupboard is not bare for WT, and to your point, the backcourt might even be better. Let's see what he does with it.

He was not the coach to make P4 chicken crap into P4 chicken salad... not many are. He will immediately become a better "coach" next year. And, in deference to all those that will disagree, OSU will become better off not being part of a Super conference. I sort of get tired of all the disparaging comments of those schools that are choosing that route. So be it, for most it is who they are. For some they will soon learn they are indeed not "super" with regard to the monetary investments needed to sustain being relevant. I have no idea how all this pans out, proably it will not for maybe 3-5 years?! But, OSU will be better off not trying to pretend it belongs with schools with AD budgets that are 2, 3+ times as large. |

I've said for years OSU is underbudgeted in basketball, especially in recruiting and support, compared to most of the rest of the Power conference teams, and that it's success likely wouldn't change with a new coach... yet the coach has been blamed for OSU's issues. Until the budgeting changes, this is a more appropriate conference level to achieve and maintain success. |

And I think between some funding available to us from the Pac-12 -> Pac-2 transition allowing a "soft landing" into whatever the new reality is, and NOT having to "keep up with the Jones'" the way UA and UW and ASU etc. have to, we hopefully won't find ourselves in the kind of "fiscal bind" that those schools have at present or will likely arrive at soon. As the saying goes, "you might win the rat race, but you'll still be a rat" led these schools into the rat-like behavior that blew up the Pac-12 - much of that was fiscal issues, and looking for ways to deal with the fact that someone somewhere has to pay for those large AD budgets..... Trying to monetarily keep up with UW, usc, and Ohio State is a ridiculous notion. I think it would be tough even in the Big 12 considering the population in Texas and the football fanaticism of the region. I think the sporting future for OSU can be very positive in a G5 conference, and it's why I will be very content when the Pac 2 finally integrates MWC teams into the Pac. That's my prediction, at least. |
