Man you know college football doesn't quite have the same meaning to you when you don't even realize a west coast coach was fired.
Good hire for Fresno State, Tedford will do well there. The MWC is getting interesting, they have better coaches, better recruiters, and its paying off. No one even talks about what a good job Bohl has done this year at Wyoming after all his success at NDSU. Rocky Long is killing it at SDSU playing smashmouth football. The sky is the limit for UNLV if they get the new stadium built, that program is going to have big money donors supporting it. In fact Fertitas just put up most the money for their new on campus football facility. Harsin blows, screw Boise Tech.
I don't know, if the Pac 12 feels it has to expand, I get the allure of Texas schools, but UNLV and SDSU would be nice additions in two major cities, assuming both get their stadiums built. UNLV's is a done deal if the NFL signs off, and SDSU knows they will get a new stadium no matter what, in fact they want the Chargers to move so they can get a smaller stadium built. And not just for football either, they'd be great additions for football, baseball, and other sports.

My understanding is it must be a major research university, although uo got in on a PAC grandfather clause.

Add some Cali schools and/or UNLV/UNR. Las Vegas and San Diego would be fun road trips. Reno's a s%#t-hole but close and near some good skiing.

TheGlove - The only reason for expansion is really to add more TV viewership markets. That's why a Texas school is so valuable. I'm not sure what the Nevada/Idaho TV markets are like, but I can't imagine it is really all that enticing to conferences. We're already in the largest markets in California, so I don't know that adding a California school makes much sense.

Las Vegas is 48th largest media market, but it is one of the fastest growing regions in the US and if it has an NFL presence, I'd hope its good enough for the Pac 12.

Reno's a s%#t-hole but close and near some good skiing. I used to think the same about Reno. I've lived in LV now for about 12 years, the intention was always to move back to San Diego, but I'm real close to making Reno/Tahoe home. Reno is blowing up because so many tech companies, big and small, are moving there from Silicon Valley. They expect the population in that region to double in the next 20 years. They also get the bulk of public financing there since Carson City hates Las Vegas. And Midtown Reno is pretty cool little area if you are in to the NE/SE Portland vibe. We still may end up in Tahoe just for the fact everyone there is always smiling and happy. And there's a big lake, and a big mountain, and lots of good beer.

TV markets is why we have given Larry the reigns and he's taking his network to the ever growing China market. /sarcasm

But their market area is 2.5-3 mil. from everything I know about the Pac 12 standards relating to research institutions, SDSU does fit. Their gross dollars and percentage of budget numbers fit the matrix. I think the two U. Cal. institutions would have a problem with the State University.

U. Hawaii P12 Qualifications:
Research threshold - check
Geographical Relevance - Check, you can't be more "Pacific" relevant than Hawaii
T.V. Market - This is where it gets interesting. Larry Scott has always intimated he has an eye on western expansion into the Asian market. The Hawaiian timezone bridges the gap to an Asian tv market better than any other state and Hawaii is a destination resort for Asia. Hawaii is THE potential gateway to the Asian market from a logistical perspective and therefore has to be high on Scott's list of potential expansion plans.
