Watched talkin Beavs this morning with Angie M. Never seen it before and Angie does a really fine job. Thought Schnell must really not like Corvallis or something strange. I wondered if she had ever been to Penn St or Nebraska before with her argument against Corvallis. Just caught me weird must be missing something??

There are things I love about Lindsay. She's a dam good writer/journalist, and she really knows sports. She's pretty but refuses to just be eye candy...like I said, she really knows sports. She doesn't wear orange colored glasses, and you can be sure you're not getting sugar coated anything! The hard part is that she tends to be really nit picky about some things, which makes her seem really "down" on the team. I do have to say that the piece about her being a great sports journalist without trying to be eye candy makes me love her

I always liked her writing thought she was good. Doesn't translate onto TV so much.

Also, I didn't watch so I don't know what her complaints about Corvallis are, but I know it's not for everyone. And, It's my own little slice of heaven

Yeah I have to agree with you. I think it is great for college years. She also has killed it on some greta article for campus rush this year. She must have said something in the past because she busted out Corvallis is not very diversified? So weird. Never heard that one the team seems pretty diversified. As well as the staff.

I never have a problem with journalists expressing their opinions, or having negative viewpoints of a situation. They're kind of paid to have opinions and generate conversation. Can't exactly do that if you just agree with everything all the time. People like Canzano, Schnell, Goe....they're not paid to tell you what happened - they're paid to tell you why it happened. Read the AP game recaps if you want unbiased reporting.

She's always struck me as negative towards her own alma mater, so I don't bother reading her anymore.

Yeah I have to agree with you. I think it is great for college years. She also has killed it on some greta article for campus rush this year. She must have said something in the past because she busted out Corvallis is not very diversified? So weird. Never heard that one the team seems pretty diversified. As well as the staff. Objectively speaking, Corvallis is NOT very diversified. at all. She is speaking about the town and its attraction to recruits. According to Fall term 2015 stats, OSU has 29,576 students and 78% of them are white. 53% are male, so there is a slight male female disparity too. only 6,320 students are of a US minority, and of those, half are international students. Edit: i suppose I should have some context to those numbers. Oregon is 76% white and Portland State is 60% white. University of Washington is 44% white... As large research universities go, OSU is not that diverse. Then, think of the town. What is there in Corvallis in the way of entertainment (no shopping mall for example, pretty poor "clubbing" experience...) and food? We have a pretty small handful of "ethnic" food options... what we have is a bunch of brew pubs, three sushi restaurants and Local Boyz!!! (I do love me some Local Boyz...) The town itself is populated by OSU employees, students and then engineers from HP and the surrounding outfits. Housing is very expensive relative to income and the retail experience is orientated to... well... old white guy and gal. Think of downtown, Grassroots, Metcaf's, Inkwell, that birkenstock store, Old world deli, and an array of bistro/bakery type stores that spend a lot of time focusing on gluten free and vegan options. I can't really think of a politically correct way to say it other than Corvallis is pretty darn white bred and yuppie. and frequently we find that the community is often at odds with the university. I cannot say, in my opinion, Corvallis the city is overly supportive of OSU athletics, in comparison to other smaller college towns I have been in, say Pullman or Boulder. TL:DR: Schnell ain't wrong. Also, I think she is a good reporter, there is a reason SI stole her from the little O.

I think she is pretty, but she isn't "hot" like Erin Andrews, and I don't think she tries to be--the fact that she is putting all her stock in her skills rather than her appearance is what I love about her! (I'm also a hetero female, so if she was "eye candy" it wouldn't be anything special to me.)

I know Corvallis is not diversified LOL. I am saying seriously that is what she is going to come up with on why Corvallis is hard to recruit too? So your telling me 4 star minorities care about diversity but 2 star guys don't? That is my point. I got some background info she loves Riley and said OSU will never do better. Gives context to the exchange, so when Angie wins debate she busts out with lack of diversity. Surprised PSU and Washington are only 60 and 48. University of Alabama 12% black www.ua.edu/quickfacts/demographics.htmlLSU 11.2 black theadvocate.com/news/10466583-123/lsu-boasts-most-diverse-studentUW 3.5 black 40% Asian, latino, International OSU Black 1.3% So looking she has a point pretty small black population.

I just watched the segment - Lindsay Schnell wasn't nearly as negative as everyone made her out to be. And for as biased as people seem to think she was towards Riley, you could say the same about Machado with Andersen. Somehow the fact that Andersen is taking a private jet makes him a better recruiter than Riley? I didn't understand that logic at all. In an era of overspending, a coach flying commercial seems like it should be applauded. The diversity thing is a fact, as you can see from the post above. How that factors into the mind of a 18 year old minority, I can't say. I know when I was 18, I wasn't coming to OSU thinking it was this fantastic place to live. It was more about in state tuition and proximity to family. Certainly wasn't planning on staying twenty years and raising my own kids here. It kinda grows on you. We all know how amazing this place is because we've LIVED it. On paper, it's not exactly the kind of place an 18 year old comes to and on first impression says "YES. THIS IS AMAZING."

Oregon has a 2% black population as well, so even though small, OSU is under-represented. And given the number of black athletes, that 1.3% gets eaten up pretty quickly - very little representation outside of the student-athletes. quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/41000.html

I think you misunderstand my point. I think she is pretty, but she isn't "hot" like Erin Andrews, and I don't think she tries. As clearly evidenced by her dressing like a matronly 50+ year old woman and 3/4 of the way to that double-chin. She's usually okay in small doses but extremely tedious in large doses. I miss the rare times when someone substitutes for her on Talkin' Beavers. Thank goodness that's the only OSU TV show she's on. I don't mean to beat this drum too hard, but you so rarely hear about a male sportswriter's appearance this critiqued. Again, I like that she doesn't focus on that and I hope it paves the way for other average-looking women to do well in the field. It's upsetting that only 10s are able to make their way into the industry.
