As clearly evidenced by her dressing like a matronly 50+ year old woman and 3/4 of the way to that double-chin. She's usually okay in small doses but extremely tedious in large doses. I miss the rare times when someone substitutes for her on Talkin' Beavers. Thank goodness that's the only OSU TV show she's on. I don't mean to beat this drum too hard, but you so rarely hear about a male sportswriter's appearance this critiqued. Again, I like that she doesn't focus on that and I hope it paves the way for other average-looking women to do well in the field. It's upsetting that only 10s are able to make their way into the industry. A male broadcaster doesn't get the significant bump in opportunities for being eye-candy (and dip in them when not), where it obviously does with women. I also find it admirable when a woman has that as an asset to leverage for more opportunities, yet choose not to use it - even to the point of removing it as an asset for the network to utilize. Her work stands on it's own, and that can't be said about some of her peers. Then again, I agree the depth of the appearance critique seems unnecessarily detailed to establish the original point.

No, flying commercial actually should not be applauded. It's extremely inefficient, as opposed to a private jet. Schnell's screed about Corvallis not being ethnically diverse enough, in her eyes (as compared to where exactly in Oregon? Portland? Well, no ___) so as to be an impediment, boils down to something very simple. If someone is looking for urban nightlife (as a top 5 factors priority) - no, OSU/Corvallis won't likely be up their alley. If someone is looking for a nice (and pretty safe, overall to boot) college town (as a top 5 factors priority) then OSU/Corvallis is probably right up their alley. She needs to get over herself, is what she needs to do. Recruits usually aren't viewing where they go to college as where they might intend to reside afterwards, so I doubt hardly a single one is thinking hmmmm not very ethnically diverse outside the student population. I think I'll have to pass. I agree with many pieces of what you said, especially the lack of nightlife piece. At the same time, I work with some college students in the mid valley, and I have heard sentiment from some that they find the lack of diversity in the area distressing. They feel as though they stand out in uncomfortable ways and get unwanted attention. I just want to get one thing straight, I'm NOT claiming that white Corvallisites are hostile toward POC. It's just that if you look different from the rest of the population, you WILL stand out. It's human nature, but it can be very uncomfortable to live like thst, even just for 4 years. Disclaimer that a didn't see this particular segment, so I don't know if that's what she was going for, but lack of diversity may be an influence. To what magnitude, who knows.

She needs to get over herself because she had an opinion you disagree with? Or because she's not attractive enough to be on TV in your opinion?

I just watched the segment - Lindsay Schnell wasn't nearly as negative as everyone made her out to be. And for as biased as people seem to think she was towards Riley, you could say the same about Machado with Andersen. Somehow the fact that Andersen is taking a private jet makes him a better recruiter than Riley? I didn't understand that logic at all. In an era of overspending, a coach flying commercial seems like it should be applauded. The diversity thing is a fact, as you can see from the post above. How that factors into the mind of a 18 year old minority, I can't say. I know when I was 18, I wasn't coming to OSU thinking it was this fantastic place to live. It was more about in state tuition and proximity to family. Certainly wasn't planning on staying twenty years and raising my own kids here. It kinda grows on you. We all know how amazing this place is because we've LIVED it. On paper, it's not exactly the kind of place an 18 year old comes to and on first impression says "YES. THIS IS AMAZING." No. Flying commercial actually should not be applauded. It's extremely inefficient, as opposed to a private jet. It probably sells better to Mom and Dad (college town), so it can definitely be a net benefit in that regard. She needs to get over herself, is what she needs to do. Recruits usually aren't viewing where they go to college as where they might intend to reside afterwards, so I doubt hardly a single one is thinking hmmmm not very ethnically diverse outside the student population. I think I'll have to pass. And thing is ..... Eugene is diverse ... What is their minority % ?..... And how much urban life is there ?.... can tell you on that one.... Not much..... doesnt seem to impact them much recruiting. All they got is Uncle Phil. Otherwise they're Kansas University....

Uncle Phil and years of breaking or bending NCAA rules and intent has benefitted uo greatly on the recruiting front. But for diversity and things to do Corvallis and Pullman are at the bottom of the league. Eugene follows, but they have over a 300 million $ lead in in bling factor.
