Wow! Nick Mitchell surprises me. I guess they probably had an honest conversation with him that he's not in the qb picture in the future. Good luck to him. Hope he does well. I think he did the best he could under the circumstances. Not sure about the other 3 guys, which probably indicates something.

Mitchel does surprise me quite a bit... he wanted nothing more than to play for OSU.
But then again, he wanted to play for Riley! I don't think this one was an "attitude" separation. I think it was an honest playing time transfer.
but 4 down, I suspect a few more to follow.

Add in the fact that his brother graduates this year, and all of his major ties to the program will be gone next year.
That must have been a difficult talk for the coaches to honestly assess and communicate his chances at future playing time. Regardless of how successful he was, he stood in as a starter for 5 games and took his lumps, time after time. I wish him luck...
GO BEAVS!

Yeah, appreciate his efforts on the field, but I think we all knew he was never going to take another snap at QB in Corvallis.

That's exactly why I don't like to speculate by using kids names. There are always surprises both directions and I don't know one fan that knows as much about these athletes as the Head Coach and his staff. The QB situation is going to be interesting next year. I don't think we had anyone behind the center that could make the necessary reads, fake the handoff and find an open receiver. They all had bad timing... Either pulling the trigger too soon or too late. At the same time, they didn't get a lot of time due to the inconsistent play of the O line. Both are going to have to improve a lot. I don't know if it's the transfer, Moran or Collins next year... But, I hope we get a pinpoint passer first, a scrambler second and a run option guy last. Then, we need a couple of blocking/ catching fools at tight end. We may be fine in the backfield with Nall and Lucas, but both missed a little bit this year due to injury, so we will probably need a couple more that have size and speed. Okay at wide out... Really need some speed, strength and motor guys at DE and we definitely need some DB's and a safety that can cover the field deep and side to side. That's all I want for Christmas - Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I want every half of football next year to be played at the same level we had in spewgene in the second half.

Probably people out there weighing their options. I would imagine Seumalo might seek to be evaluated and make a pro decision... and any fringe guys might be seeing if other teams are interested before making a final call. Justin Strong was out a REALLY long time with that concussion, that concerns me. Not sure we will have any academic casualties. rough napkin math has us at 18 available scholarships, with a 21 person class so far with (I think) only one commit destine for a Mormon mission. 3-5 more by spring seems about right.

I read that the JCs will apply to last years's class. Is that true for all? If so, how does that effect the numbers?

Recent NCAA rules limit school's recruiting classes to 25 scholarship players and 28 total players (3 may be "preferred walk on" or whatever). So in the event we have SEVERAL more people leave, having JCs count towards last years class gives us the ability to sign more this year. It means we could have say, 28 scholarship kids in a class and still be in compliance with NCAA rules. Texas A&M took something 32 kids in 2013 though a variety of means. Otherwise it makes no impact, as a scholarship is a scholarship and you only get 85.
