Scott Frost to UCF. Funny, the local hacks on Portland radio last night were discussing the possibility that he would leave. They were talking about the rumors that Syracuse was interested. Then they went on to say that he would turn that down, as it was not a good enough job for him. Then they talked about Virginia, and....Miami! Guess they got kind of close (geographically) with Miami. I wanted to call them and tell them that the much more established Tom Hermann from (The) Ohio State took the Houston job, so maybe they were aiming a bit high for him.

But, then again the Pdx media is about as much bandwagon as you can get! So there's that... Of course when the negatives hit... like if/when the Altman trial begins they miraculously find fault in the feathered fiends.

I think we're reaching here with the perceived Duck bias.....Frost was nationally rumored for the Nebraska job before Riley got it last year, and was also tied to the Colorado St. vacancy. This year, he's been bandied about for the Syracuse and Maryland jobs, not just by the Portland press.

Likely a stepping stone job for a couple of seasons I would imagine. UCF is pretty big in physical size, but is not wealthy by any means. Being in Orlando is nice, but his is a university founded in 1963 to train engineers to support NASA!!! there is no legacy, there at all. it is not power 5 conference either. I can see him program building for a couple years then moving to the next big thing.

Rumors begin somewhere... some grow legs others do not... and even with legs they usually are just that. Seeing now that UCF was the only job actually offered/accepted I am thinking the Nebraska talk had legs begun somewhere but had little chance of being anything BUT rumor. You aren't seriously in consideration for Nebraska then get the UCF job... unless maybe you have failed as a HC somewhere at a larger power in between.

Frost knows, regardless of success, Riley only has 3-5 years in him. that is 3-5 years if he goes 5-7 again or if he wins an NC next year. The man is 62 after all. He knows that Nebraska was his "one last adventure". Frost is thinking he can resurrect an 0-12 team, have a mediocre 4 win season, a good 8 win season and maybe a solid big winning season in the overall fairly weak AAC, and by then Nebraska is probably job hunting or close to it. There is a lot worse ways Frost could bid his time than rebuilding a program in a mid-major conference that isn't very far removed from success.

Hmmmm... not sure that was the direction of this thread??? But, in no way was anyone saying he should not go to UCF? And, believe it was stated it is not a destination job... but ya.

Hmmmmm... from BYU/devote Mormon background to Virginia and very tough recruiting ground and tough academic entry standards. I thought he'd move on, but not East... anyone else see that as a 'step down'? (except for the pay check)

That's a curious move. Mendenhall has never been on my list of favorites, although he has been on one of my lists. I will never forget the Las Vegas bowl. I have never been so cold and miserable in my entire life as I was that night. I remember Hecker practicing punting at half time, trying to kick into the wind and the ball would end up behind him. Byu 9-3 as an independent, Virginia 4-8 6th place finish in the ACC coastal. NC, Pitt & Miami are the leaders in the coastal division, with Clemson, FSU and Louisville in the Atlantic. Virginia has very little football legacy to build on. Maybe $3.25M good reasons. Seems like a lateral move at best to me. 99-42 record over 10 years at BYU. GO BEAVS, ftd

I see Frost taking the UCF job for the lay and for the stepping stone but also it helps him get established in one of the top recruiting grounds in the country. Not if but when he takes over Nebraska he will be right where he wants to be with ties to Florida.

Mendenhall leaves BYU for Virginia WOW. It's definitely a step up for Bronco. ACC top tier academic public school. Close to hotbeds in recruiting. Can crank up the program like UNC..............without the cheating. I thought Cutcliffe brought up the program. Dunno what UVA saw in Bronco, but, good for him! Too bad UVA couldn't keep Cutcliffe? Actually, I don't know what went down between the two. Anyhow, Cutcliffe is now turning around Duke Football.
