It was hard to tell from the broadcast, and maybe they announced but I didn't hear it. Any info on the non-OSU games would be of interest as well.
Thanks in advance.

Those numbers were clearly inflated, but the crowd was plenty loud and enthusiastic. I would guess we had 4-5000, and given that there was no student section I thought it seemed reasonably successful. I certainly didn't expect anything more than that.

We also had 8,000 at the Women's game on Saturday which probably hurt the FWC Saturday attendance

Fans actually in the stands is another matter of course, but I doubt half the ticket holders failed to show up. but don't forget, Moda (Bah.. .ROSE GARDEN!) holds ~20,000. it is double Gill. 8,000 in there can still look, literally, half full.

They had the 300 level curtained off and I believe the capacity of the lower bowl is 10,800. I'd put the lower bowl at 60% full. Which puts the "real" attendance at 6,480. Highly scientific. It was less than the announced number but definitely more than 5,000 or less than half full. Somewhere in between. Got surprisingly loud on Saturday.

We also had 8,000 at the Women's game on Saturday which probably hurt the FWC Saturday attendance 8,200+ and the place was rocking (in the second half). And those numbers were not inflated; all but the very upper corners and some spotty reserved seats were full. Second largest for a women's game. I assume the largest was when we clinched the title last year; anyone know?

Saturday crowd showed up later than the Friday crowd. We had a packed suite + 6 on Friday and then couldn't give away tickets on Saturday for some reason...even with Mark Radford in the suite!

Regardless, I would say, given the fast turn around time and the team line up, I would call it a successful relaunch. Lure in a big name in the future and that thing will take off again.

It won't be easy. This year we sold Tulsa on what was effectively a "home-and-home" series, but they weren't willing to trade two games on the road for one at home. That's why it wasn't a true tournament. If we want a true tournament then we will either have to make UP a permanent partner and make it a double home-and-home deal or we'll have to settle for lesser teams that are willing to take a two-for-one deal or simply take a paycheck. Paychecks at this level are $50k+ per game - and paycheck teams won't draw many fans.
Having an actual sponsor would make a big difference, but PDX doesn't have so many potential sponsors like it had 20 years ago. GIJoes is gone, Fred Meyer is part of Kroger now, and we don't have many strong regional retailers anymore. PDX doesn't have a lot of corporate HQs, either.
There were good reasons why the old classic disappeared. It's going to take some real salesmanship and creativity to bring it back. This was a huge step towards that, and everyone involved - especially Wayne Tinkle - deserves some thanks.

There's plenty of companies who have boxes at the Moda Center who may be able to chip in on a tourney...doesn't hurt to ask.
