Word in the rumor mill is that if it was up to Ed Ray, Luke will not be traveling to Omaha. If the team would have left yesterday, Luke would not be traveling.
I think Casey needs to step up to the Board of OSU along with Ed Ray and state his case.
just my 2 cents....

I don't want Pat to be placed in the position to have to make a decision like this. The baseball coach is going to naturally make the decision that best benefits his baseball team. The President has to consider the larger context of what is best for the University. They are not necessarily the same thing (blasphemy, I know).
That's what the University President gets paid to do.
Whatever Ed Ray decides, I will support.

All the tea leaf reading is annoying... OSU needs to step up and tell their side of the story. Who knew what when.
If Luke withheld this info, he should be gone, should have been gone as soon as the OLive story dropped.
If Pat and crew knew, then they should stick to their original assessment, I mean they had to know this would come out sooner or later...
Later on, I would also love to hear Luke's side of the story, but that would probably just be seen as him trying to make excuses at this point in time.

If he tries to use juvenile records to deny people access to education he will be walking into a buzz saw. The judicial system is not free of discrimination. Income and race are significant factors in determining outcomes. A policy that solely relies on how a discriminatory system labels children will not stand. The ACLU and other civil rights organizations will take him to court.

No "Bachelor of Baseball" degrees are granted by OSU.

They come here because they are really good at what they do. We WANT every player to be both boy scout and really good at what they do... but that is not always reality. Part of the process, part of what makes a coach great and not just a person that wins games, is molding great people AND great players (football, basketball, baseball, whatever). taking kids from bad homes or rough places and making them great. In fact. we LOVE that. We love hearing about, say the Rodgers Bros, over coming odds, with a dad in jail and a mom working multiple jobs. We don't love it though, when the over coming a bad situation is, well... this. I am in favor of a kid disclosing to a coach the circumstances of any crime they committed as a juvenile. But I am not in favor of a blanket ban. I'd like institutions of higher education to use higher order thinking, common sense and evaluation in determining if they continue to offer a scholarship to a player with criminal history. one size fits all solution rarely work out great. How many times does a "zero tolerance" ban on something wind up on the wrong side of the news because of some idiotic unintended consequence? With every story about a elementary kid being suspended for making a finger pistol, society collectively groans out loud and gets a little bit worse...

Agreed. But extracurricular activities like baseball are just that. Extracurricular. No "Bachelor of Baseball" degrees are granted by OSU. But scholarships to attend school are awarded by Oregon State. Scholly rules and limits are an NCAA decision and the NCAA specifically states how to answer felony questions regarding juvenile adjudication... punch "no" on felony conviction. Luke answered honestly in terms on how he was instructed. That's not hiding anything. IF Ed Ray wants that changed then go into it with the NCAA. Otherwise he best be doing background checks on every OSU athlete. This is a weird and "loophole" type situation, but Luke did not do anything wrong as to concealing it unless he was specifically asked at some point and lied. This isn't justifying his crime it is about the "ex post facto" reaction to something that has never happened before.
