Most of all to visit with friends at tailgate. Second reason is mrs sage wants to get out and about with her new shoulder.
We've missed the first two home games due to medical. You know what--Forget selling my tickets, I couldn't even GIVE them away. No one wanted to drive to Corvallis to see this pile of doo.

Just keep it about the campfire, friends, zero expectations and a pocket full of shells and you will get your money's worth.

You must not have tried very hard because there are quite a few people who would relish seeing a game on a Saturday. Hell, I would take your tickets in a heartbeat--without even caring about section, row, or seat number! My boy and I would have a great time cheering for the Beavers, win or lose! When you're there tomorrow, I hope that you sit next to some young kids who can remind you what it means to be a fan in tough times. Get your face painted. Buy a foam finger. Forget all your cynicism and just enjoy being in the atmosphere.

And he's not just showing up because of free tickets either You make a fine point, if all things in the equation were equal. But for many families in Beaver Nation, tickets to a game are a luxury item that come after fixing the brakes on the car, paying for the kids' braces, getting the kids' new shoes. For many of us, season tickets are a dream and even watching a game on TV is challenging because you gotta pay extra for Pac 12 Network. So we listen to them on the radio or stream them off of sites with hundreds of popups and poor quality. I was simply challenging the statement that he couldn't GIVE them away. It is obvious hyperbole that's meant to make it seem like a great sacrifice that he is making to take his lovely wife to a college football game. Poor guy. What a tough life it must be. Oh the misery! In reality, many in Beaver Nation envy him. So go or don't go. No big deal. But there is always someone out there who would happily take your place if circumstances permitted it.

I won't show up. I thought about going, even though I gave up my 20-year season tickets last year. I haven't been to a game yet this year. However, last time I went to the Husky game at home, we got our heads absolutely kicked in. We weren't even competitive, and it was zero fun. I took my son and his friend that we've taken for years. I always buy them t-shirts and love when I see his friend wearing them later on. Early in the 4th qtr it was dead silent, and they looked bored. I looked over and said "you guys seen enough?" They both nodded and off we went. I don't really feel like sacrificing 12 hours of my weekend to potentially feel like that again. I'll be watching though, with many cold beers at my disposal.
Contrast that with a game against them years earlier, the 2001 game when the shoe was on the other foot and we crushed the Huskies. Those Husky fans had a bunch of sad looking faces. That was a good day.

That was a good day. I'll be there as well as many away games. It's always "risk/reward" with Beaver football. There have not been too many games that I've felt absolutely confident we will win. Most of the time I feel our kids will play hard and be competitive... until the last 2+ years that is! But, as I've stated before... it's "family, friends, and fun" on game day. The W's are gravy and I'd much rather banter about something else than miserable loses afterward, but.... I'm not sure how old you're particular kids are, but if you're son wants to go... go. No matter the current situation it's great bonding time you'll never get back AND you are developing a future Beaver fan... and building up a fan tolerance level! My son and I road trip to games and the drive time is the best part of the experience no matter the score. And... tix are quite cheap on StubHub... LOL PS- not intended as a comment on your choices... nor unsolicited advice... just blathering about the potential upside that a series of seasons like this can obscure.

I'll be there but it feels more like a sense of obligation and "enjoying" the fruits of my significant monetary investment in season tickets and parking. My enthusiasm for Beaver football right now is nearing an all time low and it saddens me. I certainly have NO expectations of winning this weekend or even keeping it close. What I need to see is kids playing hard and coaches calling a decent game plan.
We're going to lose practically every one to one match up physically and I can deal with that reality. What I can't deal with is lack of effort/focus and a game plan that widens the margin of loss instead of giving us a chance to be remotely competitive.
I don't recall being this unenthused during the 28 year losing streak - maybe it was due to low expectations. When we sucked in 2010 and got blown out by WSU at home in crappy weather and showed little effort I was pretty demoralized. The final two games last year helped pull me out last years funk but this years funk is getting deeper by the minute.
Hopefully a couple of spicy bloody Mary's and a good tailgate and I'll be more optimistic. If it's 35-0 at half time and we look like crap I expect a MASS exodus of OSU fans.

I'll be there as well, as I will the remainder of the season, regardless. Looking forward to taking one of my daughters, and we'll have a great time tailgating with her old friends from her days at OSU. Great group of kids, amazing daughter (takes after her mom, thank goodness!) I will not let the disappointment I feel toward our program detract from the joy of being at a college football game on a fall Saturday afternoon with one of my favorite people in the world. Besides, we have a chance to watch a potentially great college football team perform. I would prefer that team to be the one that I'll be rooting for, but given a better chance to see pigs fly on Saturday, I'll just enjoy the company, and enjoy the isolated little things. With cellar-level expectations, it shouldn't be hard to come away from the game feeling relatively at peace!

I'm 54 and it seems like I am approaching a lifetime of going to Beaver games. My son has been in the Navy this season and last so it's odd sometimes going by myself. Anyway, he and I talked last night and he got the weekend off and is going to the Miami at Duke game tonight and being at Gameday for Clemson and Virginia Tech tomorrow morning.

Being in my 30s myself, sometimes I feel closer in age to the “kids” you all talk about going to the games with. I go with my dad and brother. This year we added a ticket for my son, who loves nothing more than coming to games to play football on Prothro with his friends before the game and then cheer his head off for one of the worst teams he hopefully will ever see in his lifetime. It’s nice to know that these memory making Saturdays will continue for me for a long time. Personally, I can’t wait until my son has his own version of the 1999 and 2000 seasons. Can’t wait to hear the excitement in his voice when he talks about the Beavers bowl hopes.

I'll be there - if I was there in 1981-1996 (and then 1997 to last year), I am damn sure going to be there this year! Go Beavs!
