You can put this post in the re-arranging the chairs on the Titanic category, but does it bug anyone else how the operator manning the Big Boom during the team entrance on the field, prematurely sets it off when spotting the coin toss players? The video is still going on, the rest of the team hasn't all gathered at the door yet, the entire timing is messed up. The flags come out, the band starts playing, where's the team? Oh, and that video is still playing.
Then again, maybe I'm just bad luck for Game Ops. I went to the Winterhawks game last night, they played the intro video too early, stopped in the middle, and started all over few minutes later.

They can't seem to ever get that synced up. Seems as if the team always comes out before the video is over. At least now the video has a bit of hype factor to it, as opposed to past ones ("Terry Baker - a real All American") where is was begging the crowd to be quiet so you could hear the dialog. Dialog?! In an intro video? It's supposed to get the crowed excited, not saying to their neighbor, "Shh. I can't hear what they're saying about Bill Enyart." And don't even get me started on the "bang the bongos" thing on the video board. Sheesh.

Their is too much to cover, but trying to keep it "shorter"... I am of the opinion our pregame, game management, and fans have become very similar to GAG's regime... grasp at straws, plenty of ill conceived plans, poor execution, promptly followed by a laundry list of excuses.
I only include the fans in that they are a product of not only the experience presented, but the product on the field. We are losing "tradition". So many fans around me are not just newbies (we definitely need new/ younger blood), but ever changing game to game. The sections around us have very few long term fans left. There is far less fan repoire inside the stadium outside the tailgate groups. There is a lack of knowing standing traditions... 1st down chant etc.
The game day experience/management began to decline precipitously under BDC as he shifted $ away from football. Fans started becoming disillusioned the last two years under MR. However, the last 2+ seasons have magnified the inherited ineptitude in the AD's office. Fans who were still season ticket holders but waiving, those thinking about taking the plunge and purchasing both moved off the fence. Without a drastic move and shift we will lose a generation of fans that took 6-7 years of DE and MR to build to a respectable level.
GAG is not the cause, but he is more than just another symptom (the one that should wake everyone up to the seriousness of the "disease") of what is wrong. GAG was a "quick fix" hire to hopefully keep the ship afloat and allow the department to start bailing out. GAG's tenure has opened the flood gates further.
Poor analogy, but it's time to agree that it's time to take drastic steps to "cure" the program and athletic department. The first is to get the new AD off to solid footing and show he's an OSU employee in charge of turning a department around, NOT a friend to the football coach. I'm not saying Barnes isn't the guy to lead the department, but if he can't do that then he is indeed not.
There are no guarantees treating an "illness", but you do know that getting rid of one of the causes is a positive step.
