Because the Seth Collins thread was locked, I didn't get to respond to this shrill message from gilesb:
"Who is playing the victim here??? NOBODY has said one negative word about your non-belief. Just a request that you not bring up someone's belief as a reason for not liking them.
To paraphrase you: I am tolerant of someone's non-belief, what I hate is when they whine and cry about the belief of someone else.
Your spew (feel free to infer) about politics is so illogical that it deserves nothing but "LOL"... and I so LOL."
First, I think any christian (or Jew or Muslim, since you all essentially read off the same text) is playing the "victim" card when you start making references to "what God does" to people who "ridicule" believers, and reference the bible. Yeah, yeah, I get it, you will inherit the kingdom of God and the naysayers will burn forever. Congrats. But it's a fallacious appeal to authority to inoculate your belief (not YOU, but your belief) against any criticism.
Second, if you actually bothered to read my initial post about Seth (and it's clear you didn't, or at least didn't read it slowly before your knee jerked) what I was criticizing was the manner in which he conflated praying and playing football, as if his touchdowns were a holy act, using the hashtag #InJesusNameIPlay. (Not pray. PLAY. Again, try reading.) I would think true Xtians would be among the first to criticize that behavior. You're not glorifying god by playing football. Period. Whether it's an atheist saying it, or Billy Graham saying it, that's true. When a player says "First, I want to thank God for this win", it trivializes god, or the principles religious people usually live by. Again, why isn't a religious person THE FIRST to say this?
Third, I was in no way "whining or crying" about the belief of someone else. I was voicing a critique of his manner of expressing his belief. You clearly feel his belief makes him better. How then, does that make it unfair for someone else to say his belief (or his manner of expressing it) is a detriment to his character? Turnabout's fair play except when it comes to your "holy" beliefs, I guess?
But keep "spewing".
