Chip Kelly was a complete unknown with a very unimpressive resume before he went to the TSDTR. Point is we don't need a washed up coach who either was fired or left their respective programs in shambles when they left (weasel, tedford, McElwain). Beavers need a young energetic coach who the players will play for.

Yes, he was entirely a lower division coach, but the reason Oregon hired him was that his New Hampshire offense was absurd. It basically set records every single year. He was OC at Oregon for 2 years before taking over. Long story short, Kelly had nearly 20 years of coaching experience before he became head coach.

Kelly went to oregon and lit it up as an OC for a couple of years, then when Mikey stepped down to pursue other positions to withdraw his name for consideration for, Kelly was an obvious choice among the ranks in duckville. While there was no guarantee that his brilliance as an OC would translate to leading the program -and his debut was certainly inauspicious against the donks in Boise - they knew that they had something special in that guy. I don’t like his personality or who he has coached along the way, but there’s no doubting his talent!

Exactly. We need a special guy at the helm, not a washed up P5 ex coach

I look at Kelly as an opportunist, strategic thinker and tactical recruiter. I agree that he was good at what he did. His recruiting and 'athlete' development ( mentally and skill wise ), was off the charts. The kids bought into it because it gave them a chance to really show off their skills. However, I think it worked because it was 180 degree's away from what most of the PAC 12 had recruited for and schemed for. In other words, he had an edge over every PAC 12 opponent. This would be like planning to race against a bunch of poodles and then the other team shows up with greyhounds. It also explains why he was not successful at the pro level. All of those guys are, more or less equal, he could not create an edge in the skill area, so the schemes were no longer effective. The forward pass changed the game forever, a long time ago. Chip contributed based on using ideas from others, he was a great student and adapted accordingly. Chris Peterson used to pull some real stunts but, he is far more predictable now. Difference is he can recruit to his scheme, as opposed to the Boise State model where you don't get a shot at what you really need, so you have to get creative.

Ya I'm not advocating for Hall, just pointing out that we need to go outside the box rather than hiring a Tedford, Riley, McElwain, Neuhaisal...
