Ive been thinking this over and based on everything I am reading, a team like OSU in this conference needs every advantage we can get. Lining up man to man vs teams in our league is going to be a problem on average due to our lack of talent vs the majority of teams we play.
In my opinion deception needs to be the most important component of our offense. We need to plan ahead before we hire a coach, we need to know what our best options are philosophically speaking and then find the best and most motivated coach to fit.

Sorry. There is no best offensive scheme. There is best coaching, best teaching, best execution. Simple as that.

Sorry. There is no best offensive scheme. There is best coaching, best teaching, best execution. Simple as that. I agree. Find the best coach for the program who can recruit, and whatever system he runs (other than triple option) will be fine with me. More important than the system a coach runs is his flexibility. He can't just show a dogged determination to run his system his way. A coach needs to be flexible enough to understand that in each season if 100% of his system isn't working with the personnel he has than he needs to make enough adjustments for things to work with who he has on hand. That doesn't mean changing the whole system but rather playing to the strengths (or helping to cover up the weaknesses) of his personnel. A great example of this on the basketball side is Brad Underwood at Okla. St. last year. They lost 6 straight conference games to drop to 10-8, and he scrapped quite a bit of the defense he was running. They won 10 of their next 11 and made the tourney. That's what I want with the Beavers new HC -- a guy who has a plan and a system but can make the adjustments needed to put the team in the best possible position to win. His job isn't to run a system, his job is to win.

Why is there this constant narrative that we lack "talent" OSU consistently puts guys in the NFL, heck Tim Cook made the jaguars snd GA played him once vs UW? I think it was pretty obvious we were coached very poorly by GA and he made us look much worse than we actually are. Nall Pierce Tyner Hodgins Toaigi (sp?) Hungalu Aydon Collins T. Johnson Morris Dunn Ah-Hoy These are some of the skill players on our current roster I see making the NFL at some point down the road. I'm sure there are a few lineman as well, I mean look at Remmers. Let's stop this crybaby "we aren't good enough" mentality Olive and tsdtr tries to push on us. Go Beavs

I would say Pro-Style, but with elements of the spread/read option included. Some threat of the QB running along with the Running Backs to help open up the pass!

It doesn't matter what you run. Run what you can effectively coach. If you coach up the execution of your offense, it's irrelevant what offense you run. Recruit to your scheme, master the execution and run the hell out of it.
Whatever you choose to run offensively, understand it will only be as good as the talent you have running it. Recruiting is the difference maker.
