Pretty marginal effort today in a winnable game in my opinion. Especially on D. Lots of players out, probably more next week due to a dumb targeting penalty by Not Bright Ugwegbu. Secondary decimated. Can't stop the run. Can't run the ball. Can't stop the pass, can't pass the ball. Can't punt effectively. Bad combos.

Yeah the Beavs may end up 1-11 or 2-10 this year. A lot of missed chances this year that really should have been a win for the Beavs. This year will deff be marked as a dumpster fire...

There is some good news. Looks like we all able to get our Uniforms on correctly and I didn't note anyone wearing the wrong shoe on the wrong foot.

A Rose without a Bloom is a defeat. The Beavs are messing with my mind. I was not only talking up the Weasel (before reading that wisky guys synopsis) I was beating the drum for Coach Hall as HC. I guess you can want something too bad. Not the first Beaver I have been teased by. Question: If it's third and eight, why not run a nine or ten yard pattern. Any pass play is a gamble. Why increase the gamble by running a six or seven yard pattern and hope for yards after catch. If you're so close it requires a measurement, you deserve to have fourth down coming up.

Regardless of whether or not Hall should be the next HC, I think this much is true: He can only use the talent that CGA left him three weeks ago. I completely agree that the team played less inspired today than they did vs. CU or Furd. But neither were they out of it until well into the 4th quarter, and showed that they weren't going to lay down. The same can't be said for CGA earlier this year. I don't think he's going to be the next HC at OSU. But his coaching trajectory is not less than it was when he took over.

Honestly the "bloom" should have never been there.
Decimated or not, watch our DBs. Terrible techniques, worse tackling, can't fill when they do make a good read, and can't stay in coverages. Just our back 7 made Cal look like a Playoff team.
It's not all talent. The entire bunch were GA hires and worked for him previously. They knew the man. No excuses they ALL need to go. Period...

Hall is doing what many of us have already mentioned - he's doing his best in a challenging situation (putting it mildly). Making a leap from DB coach to Head Coach in the P12 isn't a realistic career jump, not unless you have previous HC experience.
I like Hall and would like him to remain on staff, but he can't be seriously considered as head coach. Hall still comes out a winner, he upped his profile and gained some priceless experience. If our next HC doesn't keep him, he'll get picked up somewhere quick.

I don't think he's going to be the next HC at OSU. But his coaching trajectory is not less than it was when he took over. Road wins are a lot tougher than home wins. Even with a nearly half-empty stadium, Reser is still home. Colorado is better than Cal, but at home we looked a lot better against them. The emotional juice can only take you so far when nobody in the stands is backing you. Given that CGA created this mess, and he lost every road game that he coached here, this program is a long way from having what takes to win as the visiting team. They simply don’t know how to win right now, period. I’m not sure any coach could get this depleted and defeated crew a road win this year! I don’t hang this loss on Cory Hall at all, but I never have thought of him as the long-term answer

Florida's performance today makes Hall's performance to date more impressive to me. Additionally, hole's mighty struggles without a decent QB also add to the same impression. This game had the feel of one that could get quickly away - more losses in the secondary and terribly timed penalties. Never had control of the game yet somehow it didn't get ugly.

OSU competed for all 4 quarters once again. They never did such under Andersen. Were mistakes made by Beaver players? Yes. Was OSU's talent top drawer material? Not really. The opponent so far has been the Pac-12 North surprise of the season and we were playing there. So we lost by 2 TD's. That's as expected given the circumstances. Had GA remained, we would have found a way to lose by 4 TD's.
Hall is piloting the Titanic. We know the season is sunk. Now it is about seeing how many survivors one can get. So far Hall has done One Big Thing that counts for a lot. He has the team playing hard. If the players have enough heart, they can be taught execution. If the players don't care, the roster could be solid 5-star and go 0-12.
MR never won a Pac-12 championship. DE's best season saw us in a 3 way tie. For the last 20 years it has been obvious we're not an elite program but we can do well enough at times. Since the previous successful coaches with pro experience could do no better than what they did, it is not likely anyone we hire will do any better. tOSU can toss their hat in the ring any time. We can't. What we can do is get in there, play hard, play well, get winning seasons and the accompanying bowl bids, then see if we light the special on the pinball machine when everything falls our way. Hall strikes me as a coach who can give us a chance. so give him two years, evaluate the situation and either extend the contract or send him packing.
What record is acceptable? Today during the Stanford-WSU game, Leach's record entering the game came up. He was .500 after SIX years. He's still there and no one is calling for his head. If Hall wound up with a losing record after two years, he'd be in MR 1st time around territory but we knew that OSU looked like it had a chance to turn the corner in future seasons. Should the same impression be there after the 2019 season with Hall as HC, then keep him around.
