1) J Smith HC and Jimmy Lake as DC
2) Mike Yurcich HC and Alex Grinch as DC
3) Tee Martin HC and Orlondo Steinauer as DC
Or any combination of the above would be good with me right now...

I'd be okay with #1 although I'd prefer Baldwin and Lake (and they were at EWU in 2003 together so maybe it could happen?). And I'd like to find a way to hold onto Hall, maybe AHC/RC/DBs or something similar (or even co-DC). Also, need an offensive coordinator as well.
Yurcich has no west coast connections, that would make me nervous.
Hard no to combo 3

Honestly, they need to offer the job to Sanford Jr. and go from there. I would say Norvell but he will have better offers.

Baldwin or Tedford with Steinauer coming along as DC would be a neat deal. The other DCs are already P5 guys making 500-600k, not sure they'd go for a lateral move.

I guess the "forget about Mike Norvell" thing is real. Some here dismissed him as 2nd rate, not really proven.
Probably only the hottest name out there besides Frost to take over every major opening.
Gotta keep an eye on the prize, the under the radar NW guy who no Power 5 school is hiring as HC except maybe Oregon State.

Lake is making 500K per year. Could we offer 600+K? We did it for Sitake after all.
What about Niner hiring Lubick to be the OC? Or would Lubick just stick with Peterson? He's known as a great recruiter.
If Niner could have the resources (cash) and connections to hire top-notch coordinators, I think he has the temperament to be a good HC. Would Lake be worth the risk? I have no clue how much credit he deserved for UW's defense, but he seems to be well-respected.
I think we have a shot at Norvell, because he isn't a "big enough" name for UF (after hiring McElwain from Mountain West) or Tennessee (Gruden or bust!). Maybe Texas A&M would try to get him, or Ole Miss. I was reading somewhere that Ole Miss has some sanctions possibly on the horizon, which would make that job seem much less appealing. Either UF gets Scott Frost or Nebraska does.

I still don't understand the fascination with J Smith. I of course loved him as a player, but I don't think he's been overwhelming as an OC yet. Wasn't he on the ropes a couple years ago and given help? I'm not fixated on the "have to have an Oregon St guy" anyway. IdrTher have whoever the best guy is that's been a winner.

Sentimental pick for sure but as an OC his teams have never averaged less than 30 points a game (in a season), he's called the plays in a NCAA playoff game (albeit a 7-24 loss to Bama) and is a big time QB recruiter... He has had his ups and downs for sure and CP has given his friends a helping hand by hiring them as 'offensive consultants' including Tedford and Lubick (WR coach); it's a 'coaching fraternity' thing in my opinion and the more offensive minds in those staff meetings the better IMHO... I'd take him in a heartbeat...

There is NO way on earth Jimmy Lake would come to Corvallis unless he was offered the HC job...I think he would be a very interesting hire for OSU...he's the best recruiter UW has and he's young well respected and could put together a pretty good staff...meanwhile, Huskies fans are praying the Beavs take Jonathan Smith from them!

Yes he would, its called money and a promotion. Lake is NOT calling the defense at UW. He is a DB coach with an extra title.

The Seattle Times has Lake's salary at 650k already, I'm not thinking that includes any bonuses if there are any. He was rumored in head coaching searches last year. I can't see how he'd come here when even co-DC at UW is essentially a higher profile position than DC here because of how well they are doing.
