My concern with Coordinators and Assisstants moving up is they really have to want to be a HC to endure the non coaching stuff that comes with it. The boosters, Press Conferences, making the judgement calls on discipline, just to name a few of the top of my head. Most of these guys listed haven't had to "live" that before. They are able to focus on coaching football, but being the HC is so much more. That is my concern with J.S., in that interview posted weeks ago during the week of the UW game it seemed to me that he likes what he is doing now and he didn't seem too interested in committing more of his life to Football than he already has. As much as I had once hoped it would be my dream job, once I learned how much time these guys spend working and on the road, it quickly lost most of the glamour. These assistants get a first hand view of the time commitment and mental drain being a HC is on a guy. How many times have we observed the physical toll a season took on Riley or more recently CGA.... you can see it in there appearance. Anyway, it is something you really have to "Want" to go get it and none of us can answer that for these Assistants, they have to sell themselves to a program in need and be willing to back it up with hard work if they are fortunate enough to be selected. That is why, if I was the AD I would select someone with HC experience even from a lower level of competition.
