"For three seasons, Nyborg oversaw roster management"
Picked this out of the article. Roster management obviously wasn't one of his strengths.

Those are some great tweets! I am a little surprised how short Isacc look in that pic though... is Smith standing on a stool? Just looked on rivals, I guess he is only 6', JS must be wearing lifts Doesn't matter he just needs to be a fire Hydrant stuck in the middle of the D Line

Smith said he was hoping to hit the road recruiting Sunday, or Monday at the latest. I'm getting a little antsy that we haven't at least heard about coordinator hires. I hate to be a concern troll, but I'm a little worried that Smitty might find himself alone in being excited about this job. Hopefully his strong recruitment message about OSU isn't already falling flat among potential assistant coaches...
Somebody talk me off the ledge...
You asked for it - you got it.

A co-worker was listening to Cancrappo today. DE was on, and he reiterated his advice to CJS that he take his time and pick assistants he could trust and who would back him up. He noted that in today's game, there are a lot of assistants out there who would stab you in the back to get a HC job. He stated he thinks this is why CJS is taking his time, and I'm glad he is after listening to the interview.
He reiterated that he wasn't interested in working at OSU and looking over CJS' shoulder. He did mention that he was willing to work as a consultant for the right place. Cancrappo queues in and suggests that he work for Cristobal. At that point, I tuned out of the interview.
Anyways, it put me at ease in regards to where we're at with staffing. From what I can gather, the other big-time programs are still sorting through their options as well. Assistants are too important to screw up on. Think of all those co-workers or ex co-workers you've had who have driven you freaking crazy every day. Ugh.

We need look no further than Gary Andersen’s free-fall here to see how damaging it can be to get this wrong. He lacked a strong and stable philosophy and had plenty of head-scratching issues of his own, but the dumpster fire that was his staff did him no favors. Regardless of how much the spendthrift ways of our administration hamstrung him, he seemed to settle in building his staff and it blew up in his face and it helped to set our program back 20 years. As antsy as I am for news, I’m nonetheless feeling the need to put the defensive coaching staff on the back burner and be content to have the next big announcement be the signing of 10 or 12 solid kids next Wednesday.

the biggest issue I have with no defensive staff hired at this point is that I feel we need to get on DL recruits...wasn't it only a couple of weeks ago that OSU hosted 3 pretty solid JC DL recruits? I would like to see OSU get on that. The DL loses a lot of experience after this season (Napoleon, Failauga, Pritchard, Savea) and next (Williams, Vakameilalo) and I don't thin we can afford to slack off on DL recruits.

One of my favorite DE lines of all time was something along the lines of "I wouldn't even stop in Eugene for gas if I had to". I'd be pretty shocked if Dennis had anything to do with the phucks.

In a perfect world, you'd love to have all the assistants signed and ready to go, but this isn't a perfect world. While I understand your concern, getting the right coaches in place and not undercutting the new DC in regards to him putting together his staff are more important than one recruiting class of DL. I'm sure the current coaches are doing what they can to bring in DL. Assuming JS knows who he plans to bring in already at DC but is just waiting on the bowl games to be done, they can still talk about general schemes they plan to play. There will still be time to add some additional DL to this class.

Couldn’t agree more. I do believe that getting the right defensive coaches - even if it means we can’t put a full-court press on D-linemen for the early signing period - will reap greater benefits long-term and even attracting talent in that position group for the February signing period. I believe that we will have to tap into the JC ranks heavily this first year, and with (hopefully) at least a month for our defensive staff to get out there and make in-roads, we should have a shot at some good kids. JS really needs some strong people on that side of the ball.

You also have "real" players in Garcia and Turnier who both want to return and have good friends here. As far as I know both were good kids and did not have any issues except with the former staff. Plus the guys out recruiting have ways to let those on the kids on the D side know what the plan is as far as coaches.

The way I remember it, he may end up not being eligible until midway through the season (again). Might opt for a shot at the NFL. He's not in a great spot.
