Am I alone in being bothered and concerned about President Ed Ray talking about OSU "kicking butt" at the introduction of Jonathon Smith press conference?
My impression of his comments is that (a) he did not learn much if anything from the Gary Andersen hiring disaster and (b) he still does not seem to have a clue in terms of how much needs to be done by the OSU administration to bring the football program even back to respectability.
How in the world can he be so out of touch with reality that he is "talking trash" when the team has lost their last 20 road games?

He's excited, not looking backward, and he takes full responsibility for the last hire's failure. He's a prideful man and wants good things for OSU. Bad hire, move on. But, he was very specific... talked of home field, "our house"... so maybe 20 roadies were on his mind?! Lol

What did he say exactly? I think it was: If you come to Reser and don't bring your A game we will hand you your butt?
He did say it with a lot of emphasis and energy, but in print that's a fairly tame statement. Not like he said, We will hand anyone who comes to Reser their butt?
What I don't like about it is the challenge to other teams to bring their A game to Reser. LOL we could benefit from a lot of C and D type efforts until JS gets this wagon rolling again. One thing some people didn't like about MR was his lack of "in your face" type of talk. I think he realized when you don't have the biggest stick in the conference it's even more important to speak softly.
There is no reason to give any opponent added motivation other than perhaps calculating the trade off between exciting boosters/fans with bold talk versus the consequences on the field. One reason I still don't trust Canzano was the article he wrote prior to the 2012 UW game. We were 6-0 and banged up. They were searching for answers and ripe for us to beat until Canzano wrote an article saying the Beavers planned to go up there and "punch them in the mouth", something that certainly was never told to him from any of the coaches in the program at that time. Add that to the fact he's on the payroll of oregon's flagship station and it's obvious where the impetus for that article came from.

Thanks for your reply. What information that you saw or heard led to your conclusion that "he takes full responsibility for the last hire's failure"? I certainly hope you are correct about that.

Dr. Ray should know that it's difficult to kick anyone's butt when your big-boy pants are around your ankles.
Go Beavs!!

I’m much more “bothered and concerned” by your inability to simply spell the name of our new head coach and former star QB correctly.
I’m not bothered or concerned about Ed Ray. Quite the opposite in fact.

Ah yes. I forgot about that time John Canzano wrote a column with the sole purpose of sabotaging the Beavers perfect season.

Ah yes, giving the other team added motivation.
"Seigler said before the 2002 game that UW's 'face is in the mud and we are going to try to push it even further in the mud'."

Well that statement was bound to not end well since there was no mud to push their face in at Husky Stadium. Went downhill from there. lol

Richard Seigler had about 20 tackles in that game. He held up his end of the bargain.

These things always look bad in hindsight. Damian Lillard got killed for saying “Blazers in six.”
You know when these things don’t look bad? When the team goes out and backs up its talk. Then everyone talks about how they had that “killer instinct” all week.

Then everyone talks about how they had that “killer instinct” all week. And then there was George A. Custer-- "There are not enough Indians in the world to defeat the Seventh Cavalry." and "Hurrah Boys, we've got them!"

Custer most likely said the same thing all those times he did annihilate native Americans too, it’s just not recorded.
