It’s a bad look for Ed Ray. He doesn’t wear it well. At all. Stick to the tailgating and the glad handing. Leave the ass kicking to those more capable.

Ray is a huge "Sir-Mix-A-Lot" fan.

I've heard Pres. Ray say 'if teams don't bring their A game' phrase before and I thought it was at GA's presser.

If he ever says it again, I hope he’s wearing a “nacho libre” costume.

Yes, I think it's terrible - TERRIBLE - that the school president is passionate about sports.
Buy a clue, kids. Ed had a very specific purpose behind his words. He spoke in as outrageous terms available to a college president so that his message would be crystal-clear: This administration values athletics. Athletics is not a thing apart from the rest of the school, but is an integral and important part of OSU. He is putting his personal credibility on the line so that no one can mistake that fact.
You might have thought it was corny, but to the target - recruits and potential assistant coaches - it was exactly what they wanted to hear. The president is *personally* invested in this program, and he'll do everything he can to support it.

I think it's great that President Ray wants people to know that he is invested in the sports program. Excellent. But using a recycled line that was last used when he hired an administration that face-planted was not a good idea. It was a "that's what you said last time" moment. Plus, Ed Ray does not sound like a tough guy. That was the least threatening We'll-kick-your-butt line I have ever heard delivered. There were a lot of ways that Ray could have let everyone know that the school and he personally were invested in Beaver athletics. There were a lot of ways that Ray could have sounded threatening to other schools. He fell flat this time.

Again . . . he's not trying to sound "tough". He's trying to sound COMMITTED. That was directed toward every potential assistant coach hire and every recruit. I'll guarantee you that right now there are a bunch of head coaches in the Pac who envy JS for having a boss who shows his commitment to sports on his sleeve like that.

It was a terrible choice in recycling that line. As he was speaking I was thinking to myself, "please, whatever you do ...... do not trot that previous line out (or anything close to it)."
It pretty much fell flat.
In a small consolation, he didn't recycle the entire previous thing, just a portion of it. That's not how I took it at all. To me he meant it the first time, things didn't work out. So why give up. He still believes what he said back then and echoed even louder now. The difference is we now have the right people in place to back him up.

More believable if pat Casey delivers that line I think you're missing the point. Casey has nothing to do with football or allocating resources, or placing priority on the football program. Ed Ray does and his emphatic vocalization of succeeding in the classroom and on the field of competition is a big deal.

It's BS and comes off as pandering. I skipped through that part of the introduction because i heard it was coming. Cringe worthy

These things always look bad in hindsight. Damian Lillard got killed for saying “Blazers in six.” You know when these things don’t look bad? When the team goes out and backs up its talk. Then everyone talks about how they had that “killer instinct” all week. And then there was George A. Custer-- "There are not enough Indians in the world to defeat the Seventh Cavalry." and "Hurrah Boys, we've got them!" Chesty Puller once said: "Don't forget, you're the First Marines (regiment) not all the Communists in Hell can over run you". Chesty was a more accurate prognosticator than George.
