Oregon State: Sources tell us that quality control coach Jake Cookus will be retained and work as special teams coordinator. We understand he may also coach the safeties.

He's been a safeties coach so this tracks.
Friends of mine who went to the State Championship game (where my alma mater won, btw.. go Cavs) spotted Cookus on the sideline with Coach Smith at the game.
Possible that Jake was just catching up with his old teammate but awfully coincidental. It also fits with Cory Hall continuing to coach CB's, supposedly Smith has met/interviewed Hall and it would appear is at least considering the tradition of retaining a coach from the previous staff.

I hope you are right; I'd still really like to see Hall retained.

The Cavs came close in 1978... An unassisted fumble, returner had a cleared the kick coverage nothing between him and the endzone. Clackamas class of '77 here. These coaches have me looking forward to the 2018 season! My wife commented that it may be time to make the drive down from Olympia for a couple games next year.

I'm class of '94, so I've reached the age where some of my friends have kids playing for the Cavs. It's pretty neat for me.
