The other threads were just hitting the 7-8-9 page magic burnout length. Thank goodness a new thread was started.

Riley would probably be great for Smith in my opinion as an assistant. wonder if he will hang out with Banker and if Banker was OK with the cornhuskers forcing his hand to fire him?? Maybe Banker can help consult on how to defend mobile QB offenses!! hehe

He done be gone. Twice. RIP as a Beaver. Want to move back to his home town? Good for him. Stay away from campus. absolutely, he quit on our program twice and we were all told if he just had the resources he would be great (like Nebraska type resources). I wonder if the ducks would consider rehiring Taggart twice. Tells you the state of some in our "connected" fan base. I wish Mike the best in retirement. Believe it or not, there’s a HUGE difference between Taggart and Riley. Riley apparently never used staying or leaving as a negotiating tool. Riley left because of tremendous opportunity and never has been accused of using his existing job as leverage... Taggart apparently was offered 4.1 mil by FSU, then tweeted a hint he was staying put and apparently told FSU it’s 5 mil or bust, at least that’s the scuttlebutt. This “quit on the team” complaint argument is a bunch of BS. There’s no way you could get me to believe either of you would not do the same thing if you were in Riley’s shoes at the time. Riley had plenty of opportunities, and possibly good reasons, to quit on a number of occasions and didn’t. These were legit career moves that just about anyone would have taken, and if they turned them down I’d bet it would be for any number of reasons other than loyalty to the team.

Probably not, but they think about hiring Chip Kelly again every day. Some actually talk about hiring Cryalotti back too!

To mention Riley and Taggart in the same breath as being comparable shows your true colors. Inconceivable.

Probably not, but they think about hiring Chip Kelly again every day. Some actually talk about hiring Cryalotti back too! Chip's last season coaching, 2 wins and 14 losses. Not every coaching situation is the same. Patricia, you're mistaken yet again. What people have said is, if OSU had invested more in football when MR's Beaver teams were finishing in the top 3 consistently, he could have brought the program to new heights. Resources alone aren't a magic bullet. When you have momentum and good coaching, then throwing additional resources into the mix can make a difference as compared to diverting resources away from the program to other sports. Scheduling alone demonstrates the penny pinching that was going on. One and done body bag games on the road against top 10 teams. Now that's a formula for keeping and building momentum and padding the win column(sarc). Your Nebraska example demonstrates a complete lack of understanding. Nebraska's resources relative to the conference they're in, are not all that impressive. Big 14 teams with higher budgets; tOSU, Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin, MSU, Iowa, and Minnesota. Northwestern is private and likely higher as well, but we don't know for sure. Illinois is right on par with Nebraska. Bottom line, Nebraska's athletic budget is closer to the bottom of the BIG than the top. They were one of the "haves" in the Big 12(10), in the Big 10(14) they're a "have not" in both relative resources, and as importantly in clout and political power. Chip is smart and demonstrated that by pick UCLA, a school that is competitive in the conference budget wise, located in a recruiting hotbed, and has strong standing and clout in the power structure of the conference. That's a pretty good situation to succeed in.
