This board is pro Riley old timers which is fine but, the guys I went to school with 2000-2004 are not into it. I'm sure if we polled the age of the pro Riley votes, it would show they went to OSU pre 2000 when/before Riley "broke the streak", which was a huge deal for the older chaps back then.. living in the past is fun I guess?

It’s called perspective. It’s why so many people (even long-time duck fans) can hardly tolerate the Johnny-come-lately bandwagon fans who are so belligerent and think it’s hole’s birthright to win 10 games in a down year. Fans in your generation often don’t have perspective. When you were wearing diapers in the middle of that embarrassing stretch of Beaver football, and a middle-schooler when Pettibone made it clear that we were still a mess, you would have no clue about how incredible it was to have a solid football program. To win as many as we lost was a foreign luxury. To go to the Fiesta Bowl and arguably have the best team in the country at tre end of the 2000 season was surreal. To proceed to have the 4th winningest program in the conference for the next decade was astonishing. Nothing wrong with wanting more, but a nice dose of reality is a very good thing. Riley needed to change some things -including staff - and didn’t, and I felt that it was good for him to move on. I remember thinking “be careful what you wish for” when he left and some fans were so adamant that he had to go (ironically many complained that he left us, presumably because they wanted us to fire him??!). Most vocal critics were ecstatic with about the huge “upgrade” that Andersen was. Hmmm...how did that work out? My son is about your age, and we go round and round on this very issue. I am confident that many of you will never get how sharp Riley is and/or what he did for OSU.

Yes, just don't put him in charge of clock management.

YES. I had a case of "the grass is always greener on the other side..." syndrome. Boy, I missed him so much. He belongs back at home in Corvallis. He's done so much for this program and he has so much knowledge to share. Jonathan Smith is so fortunate to have MR around who is willing to share his experiences and do a little coaching. He has nothing to prove. He's done it all to me. He's a coach. He still wants to coach. Welcome home, Mike.
I remember coming out of college, I still kept an eye on the Beavs. Kragthorpe. Pettibone. Always hopeful but I realized that the Beavs were going to disappoint as usual. Then, Riley comes along. His 2nd year. The 1998 season peaked my interest. Playing tough all season. Sure. Lost some but still. Then, that double OT Civil War game. I watched that game in a dive/sports bar. I could not even believe that it was televised where I was at. One of the best Beaver victories I have witnessed. I was soooooo happy. That Mike Riley got the ball rolling for sure. When he came back for his second stint, I enjoyed many years of enjoyable football. Many.
I welcome him back. It's a perfect fit for me.

I put one dollar in for a donation drawing at The Time Out (Jason Inn bar), and won 2 tickets for that game, 4th row...50 yard line area. Best football game I have ever attended.

Yes, just don't put him in charge of clock management. i have a premonition for this upcoming season, beavs will fail in a clock management situation and everyone will blame Riley. I throw up in my mouth a little thinking about it.

Riley didn't "break the streak." Shows just how much you and your "friends" know. Lol True I guess he had them on trending up then? So what did Riley actually accomplish at OSU, besides riding DE's success?

So what did Riley actually accomplish at OSU, besides riding DE's success? 1). Took Petitbone’s talentvand immediately made a laughingstock competitive, beating a very good Oregon team in year 2 and going 5-6 with a bunch of wishbone holdovers and young recruits of his; and 2) Recruited all but 2 or 3 key players on the 2000 Fiesta bowl team. 3) sustained the 4th winningest program for the next decade after Erickson left (not many 10th year seniors on that roster); Other than that...not much!

So, 88% yes and 12% no. I'd say we have a very vocal minority on here.
