I would hope there is a place for Cory Hall, but so far it looks like that won't be the case. I wish him well and I will hate to see him on the other side of the field with an opponent next year, but I think that scenario is a very high possibility.

Nall didn’t fumble. It was the offensive coordinators fault. Or it was Togaia’s fault.

Not sure we can say for sure, one way or the other... I also would like to see Cory Hall remain a coach here, and do expect to see that happen (my guess is at least 80% probability). None of the defensive coaches have been officially announced, I believe, and probably will not be until the defensive coordinator is officially announced. Think about it... Many on the board were debating if Mike Riley was or was not coming back, even today...and most saying no it was “fake news”. And apparently (per Eggers’ article in the Portland Tribune) Riley was already here at OSU in meetings with the new OC and going over the film the previous two days...! Old news for those that really are “in the know”. We are so NOT in the know... Baseba!!!! had some good comments on this yesterday, that hires were likely happening already and just not official yet. But I’m sure we all are on pins and needles, eagerly hoping to know who is coming in to coach. I have confidence in CJS and know it will work out well.

I was thinking (similar to the OP) that in some alternate universe Nall doesn't fumble and we beat Stanford. And that momentum makes the difference and we beat the Buffs......and then the conversation about Hall 4 HC becomes serious. But now I am reading the fumble was the OC's fault or Noah's fault.......at the risk of being humor impaired, really? If so, I missed something, because in my recollection the ball gets handed off to Nall, and he......fumbled it. Go Beavers!

If we could go backwards in time a win over Stanford might help against Colorado, but since time doesn't work that way.... Nall's fumble was Stanford NT Phillips' fault. That guy completely blew up the play and was on Nall as soon as he got the ball. SaveSave

His foot came up and kicked the ball out before Ryan made contact with any defender. Such was the Beaver luck in 2017. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO looking forward to the 2018 campaign. I may even take in the spring game this year just to see a real offense wearing orange in Reser again.

Hall for the HC was never on the table... as far as the admin was concerned. His work was appreciated. His interview was a courtesy and he knew from then on he was interim. You could even tell from his demeanor with the media from that point on.

I like Hall because he brings energy and seems to relate to the players in a different, but good way. He also hates the sdtr which is a fine quality. If CJS thinks Hall would benefit the program then I'm all in.

First, even though Oregon State is playing at home, there is no snap count, so Phillips knows exactly when to jump. Sumner Houston completely whiffs on his assignment and lets Phillips deep into the backfield almost immediately after the snap. Tuli Wily-Matagi's assignment appears to be to cross in front of Nall and block the SLB on the other side of the field, because why not? Unfortunately, Phillips is there, so Wily-Matagi blocks Phillips. Rather than chipping him out of the play, Wily-Matagi decides to wildly throw himself into Phillips. This only seems to take Wily-Matagi out of the play. In so doing, Wily-Matagi kicks Nall, causing Nall to lose control of the football. Garretson does not try to sell that it is a keeper for some reason, which allows the SLB to key on Nall. Since neither Houston nor Wily-Matagi successfully blocked anyone and seem to only have made things worse by being present and Garretson is not really trying, Nall is forced to make a move in the backfield to avoid the first rusher with the second rusher bearing down upon him, all while losing control of the football. The unblocked SLB hits Nall to completely force the fumble. Phillips, having really only been inconvenienced by Wily-Matagi more than anything, comes up with the fumble. Terrible scheme. Terrible play-calling. Terrible line play. Terrible quarterbacking. Terrible decision-making by Wily-Matagi. Terrible situational awareness by Garretson and Nall. Even worse situational play-calling by the coaching staff. This is right after a terrible timeout by David Shaw. A rare blunder that should have paved the way for an Oregon State victory. Instead, Shaw comes out looking like a genius. The whole thing reminded me of the Minnesota game to start last year, when GAG made that bumbling moron, Tracy Claeys, look like a mastermind. I am very happy that Jonathan Smith has returned home!
