I was out of the area for most of the second half December, but tried to stay tuned into Beavs news in Florida. Did I miss an announcement re: JS’s selection to coach the secondary? If not, I wonder why that hasn’t been resolved at this point, or whom he has on his radar to fill that role on his staff? Is Coach Riley ultimately going to take that position group? He played DB and has plenty of experience and expertise in working with DBs, but I wouldn’t mind seeing us add a guy in his 30s or 40s to the staff for recruiting purposes.
Someone mentioned that the date for schools to add another staff member is coming soon. If so, are we at the present limit for paid staff and needing to wait until this new provision officially goes into effect?
Part of my curiosity stems from wondering if the DBs coach might ultimately end up being Cory Hall (and just generally wanting to know where he’ll be working next fall), but mostly I’m anxious to have all of the staff in my place to help my an all-out push before the late signing day. I know that JS has clearly stated that he’d rather take his time and make sure he gets it right. I support that, but would love to see the right guy selected soon.

No, you didn't miss an announcement. I think it depends on who else they can get, but we need a RB coach and a DB coach. Yes, I count 9 guys currently coaching, so we can add the 10th guy on January 9th. If we get a running backs coach, Riley will coach DBs. I kind of feel like that ship has sailed. I'd like to keep him too, but I don't really see it happening.

Beavadelic - I’m right there with you on your questions... I keep expecting to hear an announcement - and not so far.
The new DC finished up coaching Wisconsin’s D-Line, I think, at a bowl game...think it was last week. Figured he would want to meet with Coach Hall. Haven’t heard of Hall leaving yet so looks like him staying is at least a possibility.
I believe we have two coaches to be hires yet. One can be announced now and other can be announced Jan 8th, I believe.
Anyhow, these are some of the same questions I’ve had and has had me looking real close at the message boards. Probably we should know in the next week.

Probably we should know in the next week. Interestingly, Andersen is the 10th coach for Utah, and it was announced he will begin on the 9th when he is allowed to. So, it would seem we could hire for that 10th now, and even announce it. that coach cannot begin duties until the 9th. If not, Utah might be in trouble.

OSU currently has hired 8 on-field assistants, a director of operations and a strength coach. Remaining assistant openings are at RB, DB (which could in theory be split into two positions) and TE positions. OSU can bring in 2 more on-field assistants and Riley will fill the/a vacant position spot. I could be wrong. I too think Hall won’t be here unless the new DC specifically wants him. www.osubeavers.com/coaches.aspx?path=football

I get a feeling Hall wants to be here at OSU - or he would have already taken another opportunity, and it would have been announced... But yeah, the new DC will have to agree with him staying. And that will probably take a couple meetings and then some head scratching... And Hall is likely covering his bases by talking to other universities, just in case. That’s my gut instinct, for what it’s worth.

I know that this isn’t a cure for cancer or the solution to world peace, but I can’t seem to get enough info relating to this new era for our football program.
