Says he has lost his passion for the game. I had high hopes for him next year. He had an interesting career, played for both UO and OSU and quit on both of them. Maybe he shows up at Portland St. in a few years....

Maybe he shows up at Portland St. in a few years.... It takes a lot of dedication to play D-I football, and if you don't have it, it's better to stop. Usually, it's easier for the most physically talented guys to muster up the dedication, but I certainly understand anyone who doesn't want to put themselves through the grind. Especially after some bad injuries. Bad shoulders don't tend to miraculously get better. SaveSave

Well that was unexpected. Tough loss. From a stable of great RBs to being a little thin.

Well that was unexpected. Tough loss. From a stable of great RBs to being a little thin. Maybe 2 less now, but certainly never a "great stable"... We currently have four RBs on the roster... one can be very good with more carries... two, Tyler and Baylor are terrific athletes. We'll add at least one RB this class... Tyner was a nice story, but he was no where near the Tyner of old. And... maybe he was quietly informed he'd not be getting carries over the other three??

Are you sure about this? I don't see anything about this anywhere else.

Not sure we can conclude how good/bad any of our backs were based on last years incoherent offensive mess. Unlike GA who ran off QB's before ever holding a competition, I doubt there's been any predetermined notion of who has or has not earned carries, positions, etc... with this staff. I think, but could certainly be wrong, we'll see a hardy competition starting in spring and going through fall that determines where the chips fall going into the season. I'm sure the coaches have some ideas of where they see certain players starting to fit, but have full confidence this staff will give plenty of opportunity for players to earn their way and they'll watch closely and adjust based on what they see rather than decide first and not deviate even when the 3rd string QB shows repeatedly why he's better than the starter.

Not sure this is the place for this, but one thing I've been somewhat surprised by is that there hasn't been much in the way of players transferring out with the new coaching staff. Or maybe I've just not seen those mentions. Maybe we'll see more after next year once players and coaches understand where players fit and what ones don't fit. For now it seems like current players are willing to wait and see, which is probably a good thing.

Funny in a sad way to see two great Oregon HS RB's be finished off by problems. Tyner was injured at UO, tried to rebound here and got stuck with a poorly coached team. At his best he was quite the load though! Then there's the case of the basketcase Colt Lyerla who always got into trouble even after being dropped by the team from Eugene. That guy was an awesome physical talent, good enough to play RB or TE well but he was mental.
If both had been healthy in body and mind, can you imagine the sheer power such a backfield duo would have brought to the game? They would have been as good as anything Alabama ever had plus Oregon had better QB's than the Tide. Instead it was crash and burn time for two tremendous homegrown talents.
Want to see the opposite story? SJ. There's a guy who survived poor OL play and was still a dominant force at the college and pro level. Clone him, run two back formations and you can do to everyone what Michigan and Ohio State did in the Big Two (Ten) for so long! Mentally, SJ always had his head screwed on right as well. He struck me as being as good a person as he was an athlete, which mean he was damned good!
God-given talent is one thing. It takes a man to shape it and luck to make it pay off.

Wish him well, but I'm actually really excited to see Artavis Pierce as our #1 RB.
Just some fantastic GA-related quotes:
Tyner questions whether the coaches knew what they were doing.
"I just think we had a lot of weapons on the team, but they didn't use them properly," Tyner said. "For example, Isaiah Hodgins was one of our top receivers, and he didn't play at all in one game (against Washington). Strange things happened all through the season. It was tough on all of us."
"A lot of things that went on, I didn't get, but I was just happy to be there."
LOL good to know that we're not the only ones who noticed those strange things and didn't think the coaches knew what they were doing.

I'm greatly disappointed to see him go. I never saw him play in high school or at uo (I don't watch their games) but when I saw him in the fall he was explosive. I loved Nall but Tyner hit the line so much more aggressively. I thought he was a cut above. Bummer.

I imagine his shoulders still bother him constantly when playing. That would kill the passion for the game for most.

This is really too bad especially when you consider he probably should have been a Beaver from the get go. Having had two rotator cuff surgeries on both shoulders I can sympathize with if that's one of the reasons he's calling it quits. Good luck TT !!
