Says he has lost his passion for the game. I had high hopes for him next year. He had an interesting career, played for both UO and OSU and quit on both of them. Maybe he shows up at Portland St. in a few years.... It takes a lot of dedication to play D-I football, and if you don't have it, it's better to stop. Usually, it's easier for the most physically talented guys to muster up the dedication, but I certainly understand anyone who doesn't want to put themselves through the grind. Especially after some bad injuries. Bad shoulders don't tend to miraculously get better. SaveSaveThomas is probably more interested in being able to walk and talk normally in 15 years. What a tough journey between the injuries, medical retirement, then playing in the hot mess that we had here last season. I’m sorry to see Thomas hang it up - he could have been a force in his last year next season and maybe gotten an NFL look. I loved the way that he played. Now he can hunt and fish and move on in life. I wish he would have started here, but appreciate that we got to enjoy him in a Beaver uniform for one year anyway. Now AP is the man by any measure in our running game, and he’s more than capable of shining. Good luck to Thomas. The guy is a real class act.

I agree, Thomas Tyner is a class act. The game of football is changing quickly because of all of the problems with injuries. In some ways I get a bit tired of the complexity of the new rules regarding safety, but then I think of people like Jr. Saeu and Darrell Stingley and realize life is more important than football.
Have a great life Thomas, thanks for being a Beaver.

I take issue with using the "Q-Word" with a player like Tyner. He gave it his all, he played the entire season and now he is moving on (He would have had to fight the NCAA for a sixth year anyways, there was no guarantee he was even going to be eligible).
We need to save the "Q-Word" for real quitters... Like Gary Andersen!

I am proud that Thomas decided to give the game one more try with the Beavs, and that he has come to his decision to end his career before he risked further injury. I wish him the best and thank him for becoming a Beaver!

Here here! Thank you Thomas! I enjoyed every play you touched the ball, you were one of the bright spots in a disastrous season. Things all around were a mess and falling apart but you kept yourself above it and stayed competitive. A lesson that will serve you well for the rest of your life.

I can imagine some steelhead are sorry he's retiring, too.
