DJ Alexander was our last drafted LB in 2015. We did have a good run in the the 2000's though. James Allen, Nick Barnett, Richard Seigler, Keith Ellison, Joey THE ROCK, Slade Norris, Gabe Miller all were drafted LBs for us in that decade. Not too terrible for little ol' OSU. If we are to be honest with ourselves, we were equal parts Secondary U. Treston Decoud, Steven Nelson, Ryan Murphy, Jordan Poyer, Brandin Hardin, Keenan Lewis, Brandon Hardin, Brandon Hughes, Al Afalava, Sabby Piscitelli, Dennis Weathersby are all draftees since the 2000's.

Draftees since 2000 by position: WR: 6 TE: 1 OL: 7 QB: 3 RB: 2 DL: 8 LB: 8 DB: 10 Oregon State really has been Secondary U since 2000. The defense also has generally outshone the offense, as far as producing topflight talent. Of course, the list does not include players like Brandon Browner, Matt Moore, Mike Remmers, and Johnny Hekker, who were not drafted, but who were contributors in the NFL.

I was being TIC... we really were Linebacker U for a couple years there... Nick Barnett being the biggest jewel in the crown.... Really the last 15-20 years the Beavs have shown a remarkable ability to prepare guys for the NFL. Not just guys like Cooks going in a high round, but a guy like Terron Ward who knows how to work, and knows how to play the ENTIRETY of his position, catch, run, block, special team, etc, and be humble enough to go out on special team and be a backup. That's something that I am looking forward to coming back with this new crew... The hard working, lunch pail and hard hat, low ego, sacrifice for the team and other mentality that pervaded the OSU locker room in the years before QA arrived. Also, probably our best NFL player EVER.... Johnny Hekker! Just a clarifying question... is the punter considered an offensive weapon or a defensive weapon? He clearly has gained yards and even thrown touchdowns... he participates on an offensive down. But of course he has also made tackles and is primarily used to disadvantage the OTHER offense as much as possible....

Lauina is a guy that I think can follow in Remmers footsteps, from undrafted lineman to starter in the NFL... He has all the physical tools and the mindset. If it wasn't for the putrid offense we have had the last few years I bet he would have been drafted. For how much I complain about OSUs offensive lines.... we have had a LOT of talent come through here and grow up here... Lets hope we continue to build on the tradition of turning 2 star high school doughboys into NFL starters!

punters belong to defense, kickers belong to offense.
