Funny imagining all the O-live and Nike haters jumping on the old schooler’s and then gladly plugging in to Facebook.

I don't mean to ruffle any feather, but.... This whole "fiasco" is really making some of Y'all (including can-o-crappo) look old, stodgy and completely out of the loop... If you have the technology to watch the game on ESPN, Pac-12 or any other network then you have the technology to watch this one, and in fact MANY MANY more people will be able to. What does "not being on TV" even mean? I know I will be watching on MY TV! In fact since I don't get ANY cable poackages it will be the ONLY game I watch on my TV this year. Just hook your laptop up to your TV monitor, go to the beaver FB page (no account needed, Facebook.com/BeaverFootball), and BAM the game is "On TV". I guarantee it will be the most viewed Beaver game of the year.... maybe ever. And absolutely free for all of us to watch. To complain about something be aired on TV or not doesn't even make sense anymore, our concept of "TV" is 100% different from even a year ago, let alone 5, 10 or 20 years ago. Bottom line is that THIS GAME is going to be broadcast in THE MOST ACCESSIBLE WAY of ANY GAME in OSU football history! I mean that's what we care about right? You, me, every Beaver fan and every football fan in teh world be able to see the Beavers glorious defeat of Hawaii! I really see no "fiasco" I see tremendous progress, growth and oppurtunity. I see new technology forever chaning our lexicon as being "On TV", being broadcast, being watched, etc. are all having their defintions changed. I am glad FB bought the rights to this game and are broadcasting to me on my TV for free, otherwise I would have to go to a sports bar or buy a $200/month subscription to see it Who you calling stodgy?!? And get the hell off my lawn! I suspect some of the anti Facebook sentiment may be coming from the recent revelations regarding their business practices. Many people have divorced themselves from the medium and I can't say I blame them. I dislike Facebook and their data gathering and buisness practices as much as anyone, but as several have pointed out, you don't need a FB account to access public live videos. And if you are that anti Facebook that you can't even bear to visit their web page anonympously, then I bet there will be plenty of "pirated" (can you pirate something that is already freely accesible?) streams for you to access I very much enjoy the irony of going onto the internet to complain about the internet

I ditched Dish and went with Sling, so far so good (yes, I know Dish owns Sling...). I am getting an airTV set up coming to me as well, so I will get the over the air Local stations. I live on a hill in Salem, with a clear shot up north, so I will have little issue getting Portland stations. But, I am also all about being ANTI-FACEBOOK. I am not overly thrilled with the idea of giving them any sort of traffic. 9PM pacific is rough too... (s%#t, I am getting old...) I did buy tickets for Cal Poly though just now. my first home game in a quite a while. so I am pretty excited for that.

My big concern is the capacity allocated to feed the video stream. I have seen many video streams over Facebook that hit a certain number of viewers and suddenly there are major issues with the stream freezing or collapsing. I watched several Corvallis Knights streams over facebook this summer, and it only took 40+ viewers and suddenly things started going downhill. I know that's not major college football, but what if there are 4000+ viewers, or a large number of viewers in a relatively small geographical area? This is why I am not happy about being relegated to this venue. I only hope that they allocate enough bandwidth, but you know how it is with every new venture.....

I did buy tickets for Cal Poly though just now. my first home game in a quite a while. so I am pretty excited for that. Being anti-Facebook is a whole different discussion than being "embarassed" that the OSU game isn't being "brodcast" and won't be "On TV"... If this thread was in the off topic area under the title "Facebook Fiasco" we could have a great conversation about data security, what we do and don't own and what our rights are once we post something on the internet, etc. But it is titled "TV Fiasco" and can-o-crappo is asking if we should be embarassed... which is inane. I guess since I have always and do always assume that anything and everything I do online is 100% public and 100% tracable back to me (unless you try pretty hard no one is really anonymous) all of the FB controversies are a big "meh" in my book, and I also find it strange that we get our panties all ruffled over FB, but every internet / technology company everywhere is doing all the same things (cough google, apple, samsung cough cough). But if you want to skip out of the FB live stream I bet you can find someone restreaming it and give the traffic to bovada or some such gambling site, or streamer making a few cents off the pirated stream with 15 overlay ads Reddit usually has a good list of streamers I for one am pumped that it is starting at 9pm.... well past soccer game times, sun will be down so no outside chores to be done, kids wont be trying to monoploize the wifi / TV with youtube(the real future of "TV")/switch/netflix as they will be headed to bed, and 9pm is a much more appropriete time to be drinking beers (or whiskey, tequilla, etc) that 9 am

Sussing out the technology details, while possibly annoying, is certainly not a reason to be embarassed or have chagrin or consternation over antiquated terminology (NO TV COVERAGE, THE BEAVERS ARE DOOMED, RECRUITS WILL HATE US NOW, ETC.)

For those who, for whatever reason, can't or don't want to stream the game and who aren't so devastated that the game isn't on "normal TV" that they just can't bring themselves to even listen to it, the Tunein Radio app is a good way to listen to the radio broadcast on your mobile device if/when you are out of "normal radio" range. I'll probably give the video stream a try, but I actually enjoy radio-only games. I remember following the majority of games that way back before an amendment was made to the bill of right (apparently) to guarantee all citizens the right to watch their football team every week on antenna/cable/satellite TV.

The Great Football Accords of 1997! my real problem with this is the start time. If its on facebook live it should stream at 3PM PST something in a prime time slot, as it could stream against any number of other options. this seems to be the biggest folly to me.

I don't think it's unreasonable for Hawaii to want to have a 6PM home game. The game streams live and Hawaii just happens to be 3 time zones away. Same thing happens to fans back east when their teams travel to the west coast.

If Hawaii started it’s games earlier, every visiting team’s fans would be complaining about the games being held during the hottest most humid part of the day. That 2-3 degree change can be a big deal considering the humidity. Edited for accuracy : mid-day isn’t necessarily the most humid part of the day, but it often will feel like it is, that extra couple degrees can feel pretty hot.
