McMaryion on 2016 OSU season: "Here's how bad things were that year...at one point we had seven quarterbacks competing for the starting spot. Seven. None of us took a firm hold of the position, and in practice you felt like you were getting one rep every 30 minutes. It can make you question if you really love football, but it can also make you question if you're even any good." Those comments say so much about the state of the program under GA. A rudderless ship. link

It's been at least a week since we've beaten ourselves up about something. Let's start again!

Probably good to keep these in reserver for the inevitable times that CJS struggles, and we can remind ourselves of the recent depths.
I'm always game for a Maid McMarion story though.

A rudderless ship. linkI like this quote the best: "I was ready to lead the program to new heights in 2017. Or so I thought. Over the off season, OSU signed a new QB, a 6-7 quarterback who was an All-American at the Junior College level. On August 1 of last year, only a week into Fall Camp, he was named as our starting quarterback. That news was really difficult to take and hit my teammates just as much if not more." It is incomprehensible just how bad of a coach Gary Andersen is. Gary Andersen showed right there he doesn't respect loyalty or hard work. He and he alone imploded his team with his decision to sign Luton, despite 3M's growth and progression at the QB position. and 2017 season reflected a team that didn't care and didn't respect their head coach. I feel bad for Luton. Kid just wanted his shot too. His opportunity. but it was a signing that never should of happened in a million years. But what is done is done. I hope he is great this season.

The Luton signing was a GOOD signing, but pre-ordaining him as the starter was a supremely dumb move. The Oregonian idiot mentioned him as the likely starter weeks after he signed and before spring practice...that had to be coming from someone on the staff.
Luton is a talented kid, and with a good coaching staff and an appropriate offense would have been a great two to play two signing. I thought McMaryion had a great spring game and more than showed his mettle the starts he had the previous year though.
Good luck to both of them. I bet Mcmaryion gets a free agent look, and if Luton starts here he very well could as well.

It’s all in past now. I feel for 3M. All he did was try to win position, be a good teammate. But time to move on.... forget CGA. It’ll be good for your psyche.

Not to confuse emotion with facts, but at the time he refers to when 7 Qb’s we’re getting looks, we had 7 qb’s that sucked. Certainly some got much better, mainly 3M. I do agree with the opinion that he got the shaft. I think he and Luton were damn close, but you have to go with the incumbent, especially coming off the huge CW win. Confounding, but getting a bit tired of the 3M woe is me. It worked out fine for him. He also could have nutted up and fought for the job that he got slighted for. He probably could have won it before Luton’s injury. In any case, the whole thing is tiresome. Luton is here. Let’s roll.

He "nutted up", more likely just played as normal, and beat the incumbent starter at Fresno State in just a couple weeks of practice with a completely different system. He wasn't gonna get a shot here.

Luton is just not good enough to be a PAC 12 starter. CJS has no loyalty to him, and has no reason to force him to be the starter like GA did. I seriously doubt he wins the job. I think it will be;
Blount Colletto Luton Willard Dukart
In that order

I think it’ll be between Luton and Blount early on, with a strong push/challenge by Colletto to step past them in mid-season if they don’t meet success.

Just going on memory of the practice reports by Nemec and others right about the time Luton was named starter. Perhaps you had a different view/memory of who was getting reps the weeks leading up to McMaryion’s departure.

Perhaps you had a different view/memory of who was getting reps the weeks leading up to McMaryion’s departure. No depth chart published, only assumed by hack sports writers and Benny’s House folks. Either way, like was said, it doesn’t matter. It worked out for him and not for OSU. Not sure why he keeps the dialogue going. Move on. Luton? Colletto? Blount? So be it, that’s what we got.
