Cal, similar to UW, is pretty tough on D. Especially up front. But, they are a dumpster fire on O. Much worse than the Dawgs. Their Oline is a sieve and Garber had someone in his face as soon as he dropped back against the Coogs.
deLaura killed us last year with his legs. If we can contain his running I like our chances, but the Coug D isn't anything to sniff at. Nolan needs to have a much better game up there for a Beav win.

Apparently, hes been up and down this season so far. Gotta contain him obviously. I'll echo what others say about road conf games. Never easy, and now we are the conf darlings. With that comes a target on your back. Need to go in with a mean streak.....line up and pound the rock. If we can control the LOS from the start, we prevail.

They sit at 8th in conference for YPG, PPG, and passing YPG on D. They are 7th for rushing YPD. On the other hand, they have held their last two opponents to below their season average, including just throttling Cal, so maybe there's something to it. Definitely agree that we have to have a better passing game to win. Was the UW game a fluke for Nolan or is worry gnawing at his brain?

I watched a good portion of the Cal-Wazzu game and the Coug D was ALL OVER the Cal offense. One of those games where it looked like the D coordinator for Wazzu had tapped into the Cal headsets. Coug D may be statistically average to bad (not sure what that means at this point of the season), but they looked like world beaters against Cal. I do think we have a WAY better offense than Cal and definitely a better Oline so I expect us to match up better. Nolan is practically still a rookie. Can he improve from his UW performance? I'll be surprised if he doesn't honestly. Just hope we don't end up in a shoot out in Pullman. Those kinds of games haven't gone real well for us in the past up there.

A bachelors in PE from Springfield College? Oh I know Rickert is the DC. Banker still has a significant influence on the D as the safeties coach. His history still follows him.

Update... I finally made it through the entire WSU vs Cal game. Delura is wearing a knee brace and looked a little hobbled. Borghi also didn't look like himself... not running as quick or decisisve.
They do have a smaller back, McIntosh that is quick and had some good runs.
This victory is there for the taking. We are going to have to play "well", not big mistakes but I think we will run with more success than the UW game and fingers crossed the passing game moves back to what we saw at USC... but the run game should carry the day.

It’s a trap game if I ever saw one.

It’s a trap game if I ever saw one. I am uneasy on this game for a little bit of the trap game reason (though I think Smith does a real good job of keeping the team grounded) and because Pullman has usually been some kind of voodoo hex on us. We have lots of bad losing streaks and examples out there, but Pullman really seems to be the place where we like to lose when we SHOULD win. Several notable examples out there, and often times it is just some weird bulls%#t happening to us. We SHOULD win, and win pretty handily...

Jim Wilson on the JoeBeaver radio show loves the match-up of our offense against their defense. We may have a few negative plays, but expects us to get back on track on offense. It's our defense on their offense is where we will win or lose this game. Can't let WSU be two dimensional. Slow the run and make their quarterback best us with him arm.
