Omar's Tweet. Hate to see him go but he's definitely getting paid and has a shot to up his NFL chances starting for an SEC team. Looking forward to seeing how he stacks up against the 'best' teams in football and if he can make a career of the NFL. Is there some boilerplate used by athletes when the change teams? Sure seems like there is... I don’t buy all the carefully crafted wordsmithing in that post. If he thinks OSU is close to ‘completing the mission’, then how ‘bout stay and contribute? Your NFL stock will still be high here. Guess there are some other priorities at play you don’t want to share here…like big fat NIL pay offs? Good luck….I guess. 🤥🤨😕

We essentially rotate 4 players at ILB each game. Speights had reduced snaps this year with EMA and Colletto rotating in. This would probably continue next year with Jordan, Miller and whoever else steps up rotating in. I would never say we're better off without him but we're also not being left bare despite 3 of the 4 guys moving on. Lots of young talent ready to ball. Speights goes to LSU where he's going to be spot lighted all year considering their depth. He will have a big stage to show what he can do one last time. It's not great but it's not a death blow or anything. Smith has done an incredible job and creating depth at every position. We have never had teams this deep across the board.

I just wonder if in a round about way we're actually financing his move. The shipyard currently building our (OSU's) latest research vessel is in Louisiana and the cost as I recall was close to 400 million. Wouldn't that be something if the builders are big Tiger fans and looking to use some of that dough to help the team out. Crazier things have happened, but probably not the case here. Didn't our form Pres, F 'King Alexander, come from LSU.... We seem to have some interesting connections to the the state.

Oregon State's latest research vessel is being built at the Bollinger Shipyards in Louisiana. The President and CEO of Bollinger Shipyards is Ben Bordelon, who was an All-SEC lineman for the Tigers in the 90s before playing a couple of years for the Chargers in the late 90s. LSU's locker room is the Phillips-Bordelon Locker Room. The Bordelon there? Ben Bordelon. (Marty Phillips is an energy exec in Texas, who played for the Tigers in the 1970s.) Ben's son Bo played on the line in three games and redshirted for the Tigers this year, and his younger son Brett is expected to sign with the Tigers in a couple of years. Probably not the case here?

WOWzers I guess you're right and my "crazier things have happened" comment may have been much closer to the mark than "probably not the case here"!! Looks like we are subsidizing Omar's move after all in some fashion. Ok so did you just uncover this just now, or was this something you knew already. I've never been one to dismiss coincidences, especially when money is involved which was the impetus for my prior post, but I had no idea..........

I made a post earlier about trying to reserve judgement until we saw how this played out for Omar. Now that we see the results, I've made my judgement.
I'm happy for the guy.
The only reason he even has another year is because of Covid. Any other era, he'd be done. He gave 4 great years here, as much or more than any of our other previous greats.
He's in a position to take advantage of a unique (potentially temporary) market environment, and I can't fault him for taking advantage of it with a bonus year that has been gifted him by the NCAA. Especially if his draft stock is questionable. This may be his one opportunity to monetize his life's passion.
I'd sing a very different tune if he ended up at another PAC school.
But the SEC? Whatevs. Play four years and go to the NFL or the SEC? From our perspective, is there really any difference? Hell, there are far more similarities between the two than differences...
The end result for us is exactly what we all thought would happen when he was honored at Senior Day.
This has no impact on us, and is a plus for Omar. Good on ya, kid...

Someone should do a FOIA for the bids on this one. This is a huge scandal. Is there anyone in the Oregon media anymore checking on things like this? Why are we paying one of the largest LSU boosters to build a boat more than halfway across the country? How does it get to the Oregon Coast? Who made that call? And do they still have a job? Where is the accountability? We can't build our boat almost anywhere else? Nowhere closer? Ridiculous incompetence!

The National Science Foundation is funding all three new research boats. Not OSU. OSU selected shipyards in Louisiana to build the ships because that's where they're built. Not in Oregon. How does it get to the Oregon coast? It's an ocean-going vessel. It will sail to the Panama Canal, go through the canal, then sail up the West Coast to Newport.

Or Washington? Or the Bay or San Diego? And Iran is moving warships to the Panama Canal. No one seems to be paying attention to that, but I will throw that out there.

Apparently NASSCO out of SanDiego is the only major shipbuilder in the country west of the Mississippi. Odds are there's major college football teams near every shipbuilder capable of building a ship like OSU has ordered. What is one to do, order from Asia? Anyways, from what I'm reading the ships were actually contracted to be built by Gulf Island Shipyard prior to the shipyard being bought out by Bollinger in May of '21. Maybe Bollinger saw that contract and decided they should buy Gulf Island Shipyards because Oregon State might have a worthwhile linebacker to steer to LSU in a couple years? web.uri.edu/gso/news/rcrv-2-project-update/

Iran has a larger Navy than Britain's and arguably a better-quality navy than Australia. If Iran concentrates on one of our allies or works in conjunction with another Navy, it could potentially be very problematic.

As the dad of an active duty sailor who may be going to Bahrain later this year, I should try to learn something about Iran's navy.
