RIP @gilesb Went down in flames here, the only person ever to be banned for going sideways about the Dutch Bros. ad. LOL I just read the Dutch Bros thread. Wow. Somewhere as we speak, Giles is still arguing that Quizz was jumped 15 yards out of bounds by all 11 Coug defenders and was stabbed by at least 3 of them. It was the most egregious late hit in all the land.

Man, the Dutch Bros thread was epic. "doop-de-doop-de-doooo, oh boy! coffee!" I'm so glad this was brought to my attention.

Objective means looking at the whole puzzle, not just one piece. In 2013 we made the redzone 68 times and converted 54 for 79%. You're suggesting it's better(and objective) to have an 83% conversion rate, but fail to include that's based on only making the redzone 31 times and converting 26? LOL 54 > 26 More than double the conversions in fact, so who cares about the percentage. By your logic we can objectively say in comparison to Riley's offense, GA's offense "bogs down" before it ever reaches the redzone and that would be actually very accurate. LOL...we are talking about two mutually exclusive topics. I am not in any way comparing Riley's red zone success to Anderson's red zone success. In fact, you are basically reinforcing my original point, so you might want to read through the thread to get an idea what we are even talking about. I asserted (and Atown emphasized) Riley's offense was prolific at extending drives and moving the chains, which is why OS averaged more plays per game with Riley than they are up to now under CGA. I mentioned, offhandedly that OS's offense was getting bogged down in the red zone, and that was specifically relating to the end of Riley's tenure. It really had nothing to do with the topic or the point I was making, which is Riley's offense was far and away better than CGAs offense the past two years and that's why OS ran more plays per game. However, someone made it a topic, and as such, I was only only relating it to Riley's offense his last four years here. So again, objectively speaking, red zone efficiency was not a bright spot toward the latter years of Riley's tenure. For all the reasons mentions. Who has time in the middle of the day to read a whole thread as long as this one?

It came off a bit to much as a good ol' boys club in a way. not trying to start something, just my perspective. but, i absolutely remember reading my share of gilesb posts there as well... He has a thing for the conspiracy theory... particularly as it relates to anything "The Ducks." i am sure in his mind Phil Knight paid off that WSU linebacker to run Quizz 23 yards out of bounds into the first row of the bleachers where university of Oregon plants were waiting with blackjacks and broken bottles.

And to be fair, @gilesb wasn't banned for the thread. It was the message he sent to me. And he did say he was leaving anyway because of my "high-handed admin practices." So I just thought I'd make easier on him and just drop the banhammer.
I'm a bad, bad man.
Oh, and Giles if you are reading this, and want to get un-banned, you are welcome back. I don't like Beaver on Beaver hate.

I wonder if this is because Andersen is having a hard time getting good receivers to look at our program, or is a partial reason. Or...it may be that he NOW understands what it takes to win in the PAC (though I'm not SURE the answer is throwing the ball 40 times a game) I dunno. What I DO KNOW is we need to focus on the "D" side of the ball....everyday and TWICE on Sunday. D-Line...D-Line...D-Line. I know the big fellers down't grow on trees..but he's got find out WHERE they do grow, and go get 'em. Coach "A" seems to get a lot of effort out of these kids, but effort will only get you so far. Talent AND effort gets you wins. Easy formula, huh? Not. I, too am not "thrilled" with our offensive scheme (we seem to be "schematically challenged.."), but I'm willing to be patient. I'm NOT willing to see an Andersen/Kragthorpe hybrid offense. My heart couldn't take it, and there isn't enough beer in OREGON that would get me through that.

So I have a theory... one I haven't really mused before but one that has been kicking around in my head. We all know Andersen took this job site unseen. He jumped at the first P-5 job that got him out of Wisconsin. Andersen may have been at Utah for awhile, but he was never really involved in the Pac-12. He has very limited exposure to those teams. I honestly believe most of 2015, his read-option offense ideas, his choice to get Collins and all this stuff was born out of pure ignorance. not of the game of football, but of the dynamic of the Pac-12 and what teams are doing. Teams have been defending a majority read-option offenses for more than 5 years now. Without REALLY splitting hairs, it can be argued 8-9 of the 12 depending on how fast and loose you play with the definition, teams were option spread teams. some more running, some more passing. He showed up last year and brought us a been there, done that offense. We brought us "so 5 years ago". I think he realizes that... and he is working hard to forge a new identity... the problem is, he was behind when he got here, and now he is still behind.

Just now on 1080 during the weekly interview with Gary Andersen, the coach said something to the effect that the Beavs will be moving towards an "Air Raid" type offense in the future. He said this is based on the need to score points quickly and the benefits it provides for recruiting. I am not surprised at this change in philosophy but i am surprised at the transparency. I think GA is a flexible thinker but not wishy washy. I also think he can coach an O-line that can pass protect and not lose the ability to run block. I like this guy. Here's the interview for those who haven't heard it, which is most of those posting based on reading the posts. The comments in question are near the end. Earlier in the interview he twice says the offense "intrigues me". At 12:36 the hosts again bring up the "air raid" and wonder if The Beavs will be running it "one day". He acknowledges that many of the top-ranked teams run some form of a wide open offense and says it's "An area we're going to move into because it allows us to have a niche in recruiting" and that it will help recruit good receivers. Have a listen and decide for yourself. That the best way to form an opinion, rather than relying on others' interpretation and spin. media.1080thefan.com/device/mobile/a/117221096/gary-andersen-oregon-state-hc.htm?q=Gary+Andersen
