of draft picks like the nationals made tonight at # 25. Seth Romero of U of Houston. beat up a teammate, failed a drug test, caught in a picture in his full uniform with a bong. kicked off the team twice. quote of the night, unnamed scout "we don't care what he did off the field, as long as his arm is healthy". Romero averaged 15.5 K's per 9 innings.

But, Luke make's headlines as soon as he is picked if in top 3 rounds. Still think he may be too good to pass on of the right team has the good media partners.

I gotta believe the best college pitcher in the nation gets drafted late by someone who has an open mind

Romero already kicked off his college team, and Luke certainly appears to be in limbo in regards to his standing with the OSU team. I expect signing bonuses far below slot for each.

Luke is a major league talent. If he can block out the abuse he will hear, he will make it. As a side note, I'd be shocked if there are not current minor league'ers that have to register. I think nationwide about 1% of the population does (which means almost 2% of males).

Some team will draft him, if only to keep him away from a rival. Baseball is bitter that way.

I hope he does get drafted. At some point this must go beyond punishment and focus on rehabilitation and redemption. He's kept his record clean and if he continues to do that I hope he has success. Turn off the noise and stay focused.

It is the money to potential threshold. I said it in another thread, somebody will flinch. When that point comes that the money is right, the potential PR hit is manageable, somebody will grab him. They will try to make as little fan fair as possible, bury him in short season, maybe a tad too long, and slowly work him up after his name is long since forgotten.

I was thinking that as well re: short season ball - or he just stays in Arizona/Florida instructional league for the year. The other thing to consider is the effect on a clubhouse. It will be a different story at the next level as his teammates here already knew him (and I'm assuming) thought very highly of him BEFORE the news broke. Complex issues all the way around...

Please consider that there seem to be as many people and Beaver fans that feel quite the opposite. I don't want to re-enter the discussion but you opened it up. Many feel he deserves it, and that the crime (that took place over two years!) is disgusting. Having said that, I hope he gets drafted, but if he thinks his past will go away he's sorely mistaken.

Nothing can ever change the past. Funny thing about time, and you know... lack of time travel or a real world Doc Brown... We live in a country were we just elected an admitted sexual abuser and a man that beat and raped his first wife as president of the United States. Something tells me, despite all the righteous indignation of it all, people will move past this. People have the attention span of gnats. some new drama will unfold that will make this all yesterday's forgotten news. Look: www.ajc.com/sports/football/vick-white-honored-falcons/qWvz0QjyiyMiQf4GGuMdNJ/even Mike Vick can come back and be respected...

Luke "Heimlich doesn't deserve this crap?" Seriously, bro? Heimlich is reaping what he sows. There are a lot better people who have had to endure much more than Heimlich. (The six-year-old girl he sexually assaulted perhaps?) And if this "crap" is the worst punishment that he receives, he is one lucky duck in my book. There are some disgusting and dark elements within the media firestorm that is surrounding Heimlich, but they all pale to Heimlich's vile, disgusting, and dark act. The mainstream media warp, twist, and sensationalize. It is in their nature. It is what they do. Being mad at them is like being mad at a wolf for killing livestock. It is in their nature. It is what they do. Just like everybody in the world, I want Heimlich to live a happy, healthy, and productive life. I want Heimlich to make this world a better place to live. Throwing a ball well does not make this world a better place to live. And his prior actions may have foreclosed him from the privilege of doing so going forward. If so, I hope that he really concentrates on balancing out his prior bad actions with good works in the community and in the world that make people's lives better, that make this world a better place to live in. Even more demoralizing than what Heimlich did is Beaver fans defending him, turning Heimlich into the victim. It is so perverse and backwards. I really do not want to discuss this further.
