I think that this should, at least, be an interview. I like the Hawaiian connection, I think he has a 'different' recruiting base, but as Cory Hall has shown - if you are on the young side and can relate to, inspire, and coach young men - you can recruit. I think his teams are tough on defense and that they seem to be offensively creative. There has been, and always will be a lot of discussion about schemes, and how they fit the PAC 12. I still believe in live by the pass, die by the pass. Thus, a QB that can run ( and slide ), and throw touch passes or stretch the field, combined with some backs that can get to the edge and out- tough defenders, would be a difference maker. I loved watching Tyner last game, he is always looking to bounce outside , but can still get the tough 2 or 3 yards up the gut. He is a real load. Point being, I think the Navy coach can do whatever is necessary to start putting some wins in the book. Also, hire Hall as D.C. And give him a huge raise . He deserves it.

Wrong offense, destined to replace Sitake at BYU, and probably soon.

Love the way he runs. Has he had his request for another year reviewed/okayed yet? I couldn’t remember, but would sure like to have him back for one more season. As for Niumatalolo: I love the strong Poly connection. I also love his innovative bent and the strong discipline and fundamentals that he brings. His teams give teams with a lot more talent fits. At the service academies, by comparison Stanford’s talent pool restrictions look minuscule. If he’s not stuck on the triple option alone, he absolutely could be a player in this search!

In regards to Coach Ken from Navy, he is not an option for OSU because he would not consider the job. He only considered BYU because he is a devout Mormon. He turned down their offer because (a)he preferred to remain at Navy and (b) because they wanted him to give up the triple option offense and go to a passing type attack.
Most Oregon State fans have made it absolutely clear on this website that they would rather lose by throwing the ball 50-60 times per game than win by any other means.
So likely get ready for years of entertaining losing!

So likely get ready for years of entertaining losing! Ive seen the posts on this board where people are against anything to do with the triple option and I don't get it.. I would rather see wins and if bringing a coach like this that can have 8-9 win seasons then who cares about the offense?

They realize that there are a lot of limitations to too much emphasis on single flavor offenses. OSU's best teams in modern history, and most of college football's best teams in modern history, blend pass and run.
You were o-fer-2 when you advocated for a triple option coach and for Bo Pelini. This observation that OSU fans would rather lose by being pass happy than "win by any other means" makes you o-fer-3.
Strikeout.

Pac-12 defenses salivate when getting ready for one dimensional offenses. Not to mention that the option relies often on the low blocks on the defensive linemen that we hate so much from our own recent experience. No - need 60-40 ratio to either side to keep defenses honest, unless they just can't stop the run. Then you run it down their throat.

How is that "salivating" working out when PAC 12 defenses attempt to stop the clearly one dimensional offense (passing) that WSU runs? WSU runs only when teams over commit to stopping the pass. How is that any different than a supposed one dimensional offense ( triple option running) that passes only when teams over commit to stopping the run?

Now BYU has a dumpster fire on their hands. I predict they go back with a truckload of gold plates and he changes his mind. Call it divine intervention if you like.

Next he'll propose offering the job to Bo Pellini, but only if he runs the triple option.

I don't understand in what universe Tyner would get another year. His clock started ticking in 2013. This is the NCAA that starts a players eligibility for playing rec league flag football in a different country(that is not a joke).
