Hmmmm? I have a complaint a concern or just what I consider just a commonsense position of decency.
Personally tired of all the name calling and the put downs of Coach Anderson. I have been guilty a few times early on myself and I am feeling badly about it. We don't know exactly what his issues are, but I am getting the feeling that they are very serious in one way or another.
I think he came to Oregon State with good intentions. Obviously he didn't come close to panning out for us. Having said that, whenever he comments now, (which isn't often) he seems to be quiet and even tempered. My guess is the guy is going through a lot right now and it makes no sense to keep beating a dead horse.
I really like the Jonathan Smith hire right now for a lot of reasons and maybe that would never have come about with Anderson staying here to the end of the season. I like what coach Hall did while filling the interim job and thank him for that, hopefully he will stay on staff and make his mark here also.
Can we just move on to the future and forgive the strange and sorted departure of coach Anderson that was something that had to happen. I wish him luck in the future and hope he lands with his feet on the ground.

Respecfully disagree... unless I've missed them there really hasn't been many personal attacks. In fact many preface their anger/disappointment with he seems to be an honorable man in over his head... etc.
Nicknames, repeated mention of failings, quitter, etc are pretty mild. And, pretty much fact. But, funny no mention of the same for other previous coaches, players, admin, etc.
Can people go overboard? Sure. It's a message board for gawd sake. And, really its troubling in this already crazy PC society that people believe they can legislate what others think and type.
Also oft repeated... stop reading the specific posts... move on... legislate your own thoughts.
PS- not sure your meaning by "serious", but can't be too bad as he is rumored to be rejoining KW at Utah.
PSS- if you are going to have a thread "protecting" GA from posts... maybe title it correctly?

I doubt Anderson or anyone he knows reads this board. Lets face it dealing with public criticism comes with the position and is one of the reasons major college football coaches get paid the big bucks. I have more sympathy for high school coaches who put in long hours, get paid very little and have to deal with delusional parents and fans.

But it's more than that. Some people find it funny to see others put down. The first that came into popularity was the Gong Show. I have said for some time that humor is never funny at someone else's expense. There is a world full of funny, witty, and enjoyable things out there that do not require the putting down of another. What is funny to you or to anyone else is a choice, and it ultimately shows one's character in my eyes.

First off... I don't find ANYTHING about Gary Andersen, his tenure or his departure funny... I find it sad, frustrating, and infuriating. And, yes, I have some harsh things to say about that, as do others. For the most part on this board I have seen people complaining and pointing out reality not "making fun of" Gary Andersen.
Legit complaint and frustration: "I CAN'T BELIEVE that Gary Andersen turned our football program into a smoldering pile of dung, left all of the players he "loved" high and dry, and left all of his hand picked assistants and staff holding the bag..."
Illegitimate "Making fun of" Gary Andersen: "I bet Gary Andersen was born with no balls, only a pussy, eunuch would quit, I hope he dies in a fire..."
I see lots of the legit stuff on this forum, and really VERY LITTLE of the illegitimate stuff. Maybe you haven't seen any of the rest of the internet??? If anything I am impressed with how civil and reserved this place is... especially with how awful and bizarre the Gary Andersen situation is/was. I have never seen anything like it...
I think it would also be instructive for you to go talk to some of the staff who's lives are in GREAT TUMULT right now because they have no idea what is going to happen to them... I am not talking about coaches, but staff, guys who follow their coaches or coaching trees and are on 1 year appointments, which all end in a month or two now btw with no place to go. It's not like when a coach gets fired or moves to a different job, in those cases the staff and assistants are pretty sure they will have a different job going forward... This was more like cutting of the head of a snake.... the body is going to wither and die. All those folks and their families are twisting in the wind right now... Seeing my tough, former football player buddy and staff member, shed tears over the stress he and his family are under now certainly put a lot into perspective for me!
So I will continue to call him Quitter Andersen (QA) because that is an accurate reflection of who he is. And, no, I don't really care about the "why", thousands and thousands of other coaches have managed, and not quit on his players, his team, his school and his cohorts. It's not like QA was new to the game, he knew what he was getting himself into and what his job was, and he failed miserably and then quit. That's not "making fun" of him that is stating fact. And it deserves criticism...

Anderson, Andersen, so what! Like no one has spelled a player or coaches name wrong, very weak statement by the people that make it and it has nothing to do with the issue. Shame on all of you that continue to grill him at this point. There is nothing gained by it. Thanks to a couple of you with mature answers. Put yourself in his shoes, he is done, he left the money behind and I think he will have a rough road ahead of him. BTW: there have been many disparaging remarks about the man, at first somewhat justified, but getting old now.
Also I have coached youth sports (baseball and fast pitch softball) for 12 years of my life, also umpired some. Never got a dime for it and yes I agree that folks that do that sort of thing are invaluable in our communities, but this isn't little league, Babe Ruth or fast pitch softball. The fact that he left money he could have claimed is and was honorable. Yes he said a few things that would have better left unsaid, but not much at all lately. You can do what you want, but it's pretty small to continue this type of commentary!
