If someone could post a summary on here it would be greatly appreciated. In a meeting at that time... Here's an abbreviated version. Was asked about the nuts and bolts of of the defense, his philosophy and scheme. Says he has 4 core principles that will be the emphasis of his defense and all practices. 1. Ball pursuit, wants to be best ball pursuit d in the country. 2. Block destruction, will emphasize and teach defenders how to take on and defeat blocks. 3. Tackling, will be a daily emphasis in every practice 4. Take aways, whether that be turnovers or 3 and outs getting the ball out of the other team's hands will be an emphasis of his defense Says there's no magic scheme, need to be excellent at the fundamentals no matter what scheme is run so fundamental drills and skill building will be where the main practice emphasis will be placed. He will coach Outside LB's and Brey will coach the Inside backers. Was grateful JS agreed that him staying with his Wiscy players and finishing the season with them in the bowl game was the right thing to do. Made me wonder if JS wished he could have coached in the Fiesta Bowl. Entirely different scenario than Tibesar's since JS is the HC and UW is not only a conference foe but a division foe at that. Wonder if that option was ever even discussed between him and CP?

The last regime apparently believed fundamental football got in the way of the process and big boy pant wearing. That all you needed was to squat 500 pounds and run around the field laying wood. It is going to be so amazing to watch a defense that can keep it's feet, square up, wrap up. I will say. ugh. 3-4 it appears.... lame. But I will choose to believe we have the teachers in JS and Timmy T (I just made that nickname up) to be good at it. We had this conversation before, but when you lack the beef on the line to run a 3-4, you make up for it with complex scheming from the LBs. I think we have the teachers and the brains to make that a reality.

You reminded me he did say something along the lines of running a pro style defense and followed that up with it looking similar to what the Steelers try to do. I don't know what the Steelers do defensively, but would really like to hear about it, so if anyone knows please share.

Wisconsin fans were equally as skeptical of the switch to the 3-4, until they started laying hat and being one of the best defenses in the country. I saw numerous comments from people saying "Gary was terrible, but no Gary mean's no 3-4....." from their fans.

I believe PIT plays almost exclusively zone with both complex blitz packages and zone drop schemes. Very little if any man-to-man

Looks like we'll see some 2-4 nickel packages coming our way.

Tackling, will be a daily emphasis in every practice A very, very long way to go. Did I mention very?4. Take aways, whether that be turnovers or 3 and outs getting the ball out of the other team's hands will be an emphasis of his defense At least he doesn't have some unattainable, unrealistic, and downright silly goal for takeaways and sacks.

He coached some flat out studs at Whisky the last few years. I’m confident he can increase production from that group, and he’ll be a great LB coach mentor for Bray as well.

Didn't speak as if he was straight out of a motivational seminar for used car salesmen. He came across as a teacher who understands his subject and can get his students to buy in and put the lessons into practice. He was strictly business. Just the type of coach JS was promising to bring in.

His talk and explanation of building skills was a fresh breath of air. Love when he said how he was going to teach the foot movement all the way through the tackle. Tim also said this will an every day drill maybe have to use some kind of soft landing pad to prevent unnecessary injury. But it has to be a every day practice to build memory muscle.
I am a bit excited!!!!!

I'm not a fan of the 3-4 right now as well but lets all remember most of these defenses line up in both common lineman/backer combos. I actually think the more effective approach is to game plan to change between them on personnel package, formations or just to change it up. Make the other o-lineman think and adjust to an odd or even front. We played some 4-3 last year. Bring on the fundamentals every day please. I want to see Beaver defenders making tackles in space because in the Pac 12 you will have to do that every week except Stanford Against Stanford we need to adjust to who is guarding the big tall WR on the fade route during goal line D. Bring in Eubanks... he can do it!

We used to have a regular feature around here that was a summary of the JBS show. Then I fired the guy for a compliance violation.
