Riley taking $50K is the most Riley thing ever. I love this guy and I hope he becomes the Paul Valenti of Beaver football. You can discuss his overall management of a football program and success/failure forever, but nobody disagrees with his knowledge of the game or his ability to evaluate talent. He's one of the best, and we're paying him less than a flight attendant. It's an absolute win/win and I couldn't be happier about it. I'm making WWMRD bracelets. Sadly and astonishingly, there are many posters here that question those things. Can’t fix stupid.

Those are the same posters that can't fathom the belief that Riley was a great coach while he was here AND it was time for him to go in 2014.

It does not matter financially to Mike what we pay him, because Nebraska makes up the difference. His pay will still equal the amount (no more, no less)that Nebraska was obligated to pay him. So, I'm very happy to let the Cornhuskers effectively pay his Oregon State salary for the next three years. Thank you very much. In a way, they're effectively paying his salary for the next 100 years or so.

Good management by smith in allocating what little money he has to the appropriate places on the coaching staff. Mike needs something to do and could certainly help with a limited influence on and cost to Smiths team. If Mike had a better opportunity like say Mark Helfrich did, he would leave in a heartbeat for a 3rd time so let's not make him out to be the saint some seem to believe he is. Just because you are not a fan of Riley coming back doesn't make you wrong or stupid. It makes the posters on this board saying that look quite childish and yearning for self affirmnent from people that agree with them.

Just because you are not a fan of Riley coming back doesn't make you wrong or stupid. Are you sure? I mean, he's only coming back as a valuable assistant, after all.Depends on what your definition of valuable is. At 50k you could certainly argue he has the potential to be. It makes the posters on this board saying that look quite childish and yearning for self affirmnent from people that agree with them. Because you're not hoping for the same type of affirmation from your own comment, right? No I don't require it as some do. What really is just annoying is the folks who can't accept a different viewpoint without calling people stupid. No offense to a child with the childish comment

Westlinn, I don't think you're stupid because you have a different viewpoint.

Is Riley the only coach on this staff that got hired from the unemployment line? It seems like everyone else had jobs, but I could be wrong about that. Although not completely out of the question, I find it unlikely that he's going anywhere else in his career. According to him, he had some other options but held off until he knew the OSU gig was in the bag. I suppose he might be attractive as a HC at a non-P5 school somewhere, but his days of wearing the big headset for a major conference football team are behind him. Remember, he was on the hot seat when he left in 2014. My own opinion, based solely on my own conjecture, is that he's here as an assistant as long as JSmith is the head coach.

SaveSaveThat hurts I guess " it is what it is" , that brilliant well thought out response above. There are a lot of indications that you are simply ignorant and uninformed. But I would have to actually interact with you face to face for at least 60 seconds to know if you are stupid before passing judgement. Unfortunately I don't associate with many morons in my line of work or in my personal life so I may be bit rusty.

You should find out if the people in your line of work and personal life can say the same.
