How lucky has Oregon State been to have Mike Riley around the program this last nearly quarter-century?

It does not matter financially to Mike what we pay him, because Nebraska makes up the difference. His pay will still equal the amount (no more, no less)that Nebraska was obligated to pay him. So, I'm very happy to let the Cornhuskers effectively pay his Oregon State salary for the next three years. Thank you very much.

Let that sink in. (granted he has $170,000/month coming in from Nebraska until 2021, so there is that...)

Mike Riley willfully taking a $50K salary is him intentionally sticking it to Nebraska. I love it. Listening to some stuff that happened in the last year, I think Nebraska deserves it a bit.

He has a lot of legitimate reasons to stick it to Nebraska, however this may have as much to do with him understanding our financial situation and wanting the dollars he left on the table to be used for the other assistants.

I'm wondering if Nebraska can call foul to the tune of 150-200K a year as a result of Riley not being paid the going rate? Still, if they have to negotiate that it wouldn't be a huge loss for Riley.

Aside from making him fire Banker and forcing Diaco and the 3-4 on him, how else did Nebraska do CMR wrong? I don't think I ever heard the stories.

I'm sure there is going to be some renegotiation there, since the terms of Riley's contract require that he seek "comparable" employment or whatever. He will probably have to accept a 150k-200k discount per year on the $2M Nebraska is still paying him, and I'm sure that his lawyer is already on top of it.

Just show them a picture of one of the lesser crowds at Reser and documents showing the shortfall of the Pac-12 Network revenue. I'm sure that'll make them understand the lower pay.

He had power to make coaching decision and yay or nah recruits. He could undermine or overrule Riley at his leisure. and did. Eichorst hired him after the 2016 season. Then they hired Diaco and the whole thing went to s%#t.

How on earth does a HC not get to offer who he wants to offer? The DT signed with Wisconsin. How do you not let your head coach offer an instate DT who's academically and athletically good enough to be offered by Wisconsin, the top team in your division. What a sh!t show that must have been for MR to deal with. Not to mention being forced to fire your DC after a 9 win season. Boy would I love to sit down with MR for a cup of coffee and hear all the details of what he had to deal with.

Riley taking $50K is the most Riley thing ever. I love this guy and I hope he becomes the Paul Valenti of Beaver football. You can discuss his overall management of a football program and success/failure forever, but nobody disagrees with his knowledge of the game or his ability to evaluate talent. He's one of the best, and we're paying him less than a flight attendant. It's an absolute win/win and I couldn't be happier about it. I'm making WWMRD bracelets.

LSJ would be an outstanding get. Noticed that he thanked Coach Riley for having visited today on his Twitter timeline just now too.
