Good management by smith in allocating what little money he has to the appropriate places on the coaching staff. Mike needs something to do and could certainly help with a limited influence on and cost to Smiths team. If Mike had a better opportunity like say Mark Helfrich did, he would leave in a heartbeat for a 3rd time so let's not make him out to be the saint some seem to believe he is. Just because you are not a fan of Riley coming back doesn't make you wrong or stupid. It makes the posters on this board saying that look quite childish and yearning for self affirmnent from people that agree with them. With all due respect, bullsh*t. He HAD two other prominent offers before he landed in Corvallis, but I have it straight from his mouth to a buddy of mine, he is at a point in his life where it is not all about the money. Between OSU and Nebby, he has made enough money. I can really relate to MR saying it is not all about the money - at his (and mine?) station of life, he could care less about that. It is about him being a kid painting railings during the summer at what is now Reser stadium, the community, the weather, the atmosphere - family. You can be unhappy if you wish he came back, but I for one am glad for his input and help for CJS. And yes, I was one of those fans in 2014 that new it was time for him to go - not just for the future of OSU football, but for his sake as well. I would not have wanted him back as HC, but in this role? You have to be an idiot (or a duck fan) to not see the value in that.

I think he's saying there are a lot of other indications that wlp is stupid - it's not just his viewpoint. SaveSaveThat hurts I guess " it is what it is" , that brilliant well thought out response above. There are a lot of indications that you are simply ignorant and uninformed. But I would have to actually interact with you face to face for at least 60 seconds to know if you are stupid before passing judgement. Unfortunately I don't associate with many morons in my line of work or in my personal life so I may be bit rusty. "judgement" is properly spelled "judgment", unless you are British. It's always nice when people proclaim their intellectual superiority with spelling errors. SaveSave

Is Riley the only coach on this staff that got hired from the unemployment line? The DB coach had been out of coaching for a year. BTW, Arizona just got its coach from the unemployment line too. So did the Raiders.

Is Riley the only coach on this staff that got hired from the unemployment line? It seems like everyone else had jobs, but I could be wrong about that. Although not completely out of the question, I find it unlikely that he's going anywhere else in his career. According to him, he had some other options but held off until he knew the OSU gig was in the bag. I suppose he might be attractive as a HC at a non-P5 school somewhere, but his days of wearing the big headset for a major conference football team are behind him. Remember, he was on the hot seat when he left in 2014. My own opinion, based solely on my own conjecture, is that he's here as an assistant as long as JSmith is the head coach. I think Bray was let go when Frost was hired by Nebraska and hired by JS a day or so later.

I guess there's a difference between being fired and not having a job because your boss was fired.

I have a "buddy" that told me it's ok to have an different view on things without the vicious name calling. But it's typical with insecure people to behave in that manner.

I was hoping there was a spell checker out "ther" that actually doesn't have anything meaningful to say. I have had my ancestry DNA checked and I'm 99.9 percent Western European so I have some weaknesses. Perhaps my problem is im missing North African, Salvadorian and Haitian DNA.

You obviously are missing the point. It isn't about being called names, it is the logic of your statements. And by the way, if you think being called "idiot" or "duck fan" is vicious, you really need to get out more - I think it might be you that is a little insecure. But I digress. Not happy MR came back? fine - so be it. It's a message board - everyone is entitled to their opinion. I am confident there are many schools, even at MR's "advanced" age, that would love to have him and his experience involved in their program. Maybe as HC - maybe not. He could make a lot more money than here - each time he coached here! This notion that he would be gone if someone waved more dead presidents in front of him is just nonsense. No one at his station of life, with his experience, comes back to coach at their hometown college they already coached at twice unless they really, really want to. You must think awfully little of MR and his resume' to think this is the best he can do. Too bad there is no good quantitative measurement to gauge player development, player recruitment and HC support that MR will be giving CJS over the next several years. Would love to hear what you have to say when he succeeds in helping the program. Are you big enough to come back and post in a few years if/ when you are wrong? I will be more than happy to do the same if MR fails.

What needs to end in this world, is people being so self entitled that they think their dumb as f%#* opinion on something is as equally valued as somebody else's well thought out, reasoned, and defensible opinion. No, you do not have a right to have different views on things that are contrary to common sense, contrary to logic, contrary to a world of evidence in the other direction and have everybody pat you on the back for it. You can say whatever in the world idiotic thing enters your head... but you cannot demand people respect you for it. Sometimes in life, people actually are idiots.
