I think Riley said he’d be a good LB/DE/TE/RB and they spent a portion of his redshirt year trying to figure out where he could be used best before deciding on RB Yeah, that was a head scratcher to me. They must not have watched the HS State Championship game.

They must not have watched the HS State Championship game. When I was in high school I actually offered to play all of those positions and they said No thanks, but go fetch us some water. It's too bad that he declared this year, RB pool is going to be ridiculously deep.

You can't tell me that Nall is any less athletic than LeGarette Blount. Blount has a suddenness that Nall lacks, it allows him to deal with the early traffic much better than Nall. I like Nall and think he can have a nice career in the NFL, but not at RB.

That would be a great goal... that guy was a stud/anomally... 6'4.25", 267lbs, ran 4.62/4.53... rated the 11th best back in '05 draft, 4th rounder I think... over 5k yards at 4.5/carry... 60 Tds... solid 9 yr career. BUT... scouts will tell you the only metric with any true correlation to NFL success is the 40 and the adjusted 40... the vertical is next... the rest are just "numbers" to NFL folks. Can't find the current article by a former scout, but this is a 2008 breakdown... www.espn.com/nfl/news/story?id=3337822Nall's adjusted is fairly good and predicts being in an NFL camp... but his prospectus is 6th Rd or lower as a "gets what's blocked" type of back. Actually if you watch our games Nall is pretty much exactly that... if a play was blocked he excelled. But, Ryan isn't one of those guys who creates a lot of something out of nothing plays. Wish a could a should a... thought Ryan would be a top 3 rd choice IF he'd stuck on the D side as a LB. While I would normally agree about RN as a LB, I remember one of the finest evaluators of football talent to ever grace Valley Football Center, namely GawdAwfulGary, who thought Ryan projected better at the next level as a LB. That endorsement alone causes me to reconsider.
Of course GAG never moved him to the defense, so there is that........
Go Beavs!!
Sorry, I am sort of sick of this narrative. Gary was a bad head coach. He really set the Beavers back years, but he does know football. Everything he said wasn't wrong.

He got it right when he instantly recognized that Corvallis was severely lacking in its inventory of big boy pants, and unfortunately he was unable to procure any for himself. The other thing he got right is recognizing he was in over his head, couldn't lead a program, had hired ineffective assistant coaches, and didn't belong as the head coach at OSU or any other school.
