Sitake was supposed to be one of the top DC’s in the country, and I think his D was worse than this one! At some point we might have to say that maybe we just don’t have enough good players. However, if this D doesn’t improve through the season, I agree change is needed.

However, if this D doesn’t improve through the season, I agree change is needed. I think we have better players. I think, with the players we have right now, we could be an okay D. I saw some terrible, terrible D calls. Nearly every big break play was an exploitation of a significant defensive alignment issue. Oklahoma state did an amazing job of attach our D at weak points, and our coaches did an amazing job at presenting them tasty points to attack. Why you trying to go dime against them? Why you trying to play with one LB in the box? what the honest to god f%#* guys? they were pulling that s%#t on 3rd and 3, not 3rd and 25 or something like that... I have soured on our DC big time. Our offense was alright. OL needs to step up in a big way, Luton needed to scan the field a little better at times. Our pass/run balance sucked, even when the game was close. To be sure, Oklahoma State is a top 25 worthy team with a very good offense, but once again we had opponents have literal career nights against us. not the way to start the year off on the right foot. |

No, his defense is not worse than the train wreck we have witnessed the past 13 games. Not even close. And remember he was only here a year..

I agree. It really isn’t the players; it’s on the coaches now. They’ve had a year to rectify the mess and we see the same problems with some new and better players. So it’s on the coaches. And in the end, it will all fall on Jonathan Smith as head coach. Right or wrong, no one remembers Defensive coaches. Last year’s results are on JS. So he has to fix the problem. |

I mostly agree but I'm not sure if OkSU is a top 25 team. I see them at 7-5 with a minor bowl game. We gave up 6.9 yards per rush and their qb in his first ever college game was 19-24-0-3 for 203 yards. I believe Roberts, Gumbs and Whittley are all significant upgrades. Our young guys have another year of nutrition and strength. We saw our defensive guys in the backfield some causing disruption. There has to be schemes available to run on third down to get a stop. If it's high risk and it gives up a touchdown I don't see any downside as we will give up a touchdown on the drive if we don't force a stop. I believe HC Smith needs to be direct with DC Tib and let him know a mid-season change is possible. Smith's timeline is burning. The offense seems respectable but if the D gives up scores on every possession the offense will regress also. |

I certainly do not know if the DC can get the job done. I do know that Smith and staff will take longer than 13 games to repair the total train wreck from the last staff. The Beavers are definitely not close to being the worst D1 team in the country, and that is exactly where they were when Niner took over.

I don't agree with the "not even close." Just statistically you can make an argument. I know stats don't tell the whole story. I am willing to give the DC some slack but considering the Beavers have better players on defense, they make the same mistakes as last years defense. Opponents take note and will keep doing the same things until the Beavers show they can stop it. I need to see improvement and after the first game I just don't see it. I am looking for improvemment from last years mess on defense. One game in it is the same. If after 4 or 5 games, the defense makes the same mistakes, I think then you can seriously consider whether it is a coaching issue. |

If we're bad this season and don't see solid improvement,then I understand,but it's way too early after facing a very good offense to judge Tibs. This isn't going to be turned around over night... |

Give it the season, if most or every team we play looks great against us there’s a problem. My only caveat to the "1 year" mantra... yes, we don't yet have the players and depth. But, Tibs has consistently shown the inability to put players in positions to have success. You do not have to have Bama talent to actually line up and scheme to not give the opposition huge advantages. There were at least 2 dozen times that just by alignment OkSt had the defense completely outmanned. There were times players of any talent level could not have succeeded. Run game... edges and inside... passing game... especially to the flat/outside... are atrocious. Run a 3-4, an Okie Bear, a 4-3 Monster rover... I don't care, but pick a segment and STOP it. Force the opposition to be one dimensional. It really isn't rocket science. KISS methodology... simplify, allow players to think less, play with more aggression. Right now, it again looks like we over scheme and players are slow/reactive vs being aggressive. If you can sit in the stands and see the D alignment is so bad that there is every chance of a huge play there needs to be a change. First, in philosophy... quit over coaching... ALIGN, ASSIGN, EXECUTE... do more with less. Aggression and great tackling is missing. Can't do that if you're thinking and reactive. If players are misaligning on a regular basis then coaches need to simplify. It's on these coaches to put whatever talent they have in the best schemes to succeed, and that ain't happening. If it continues thru 2019, Tibs has to go as JS has zero chance to succeed with a defense that is so poorly designed and implemented. |

Being consistently beat just by alignment at this stage in the game (year 2 of Tibs defense) is troubling. |
