JS may end up being a good hire. But I do wonder if he would have been seriously considered let alone being hired if he were not a prominent OSU alum. There are no sure things when it comes to hiring, but hiring someone with no head coaching experience was a gamble. Lets hope it works. By year 3 we should be threatening the 500 mark and a bowl game. If a new staff is going to be successful it seems to me that year 3 is when they usually pop.

Not knocking Jonathan at all, I think so far he's done just fine.

Actually... I think THATS wrong question.... I think real question is.... Does OSU want to support and fund a competitive football team ?.... one that could go to Rose Bowl at least ??...... Fact is .... OSU’s athletic budget is higher than many schools in PAC. And nation. That’s not the problem. The problem is the amount of that budget dedicated to football. It’s declined significantly since 2001. I’m not going to post the actual numbers.... they are on other sites and not mine nor any other orange colored Beav fan. Props go to OSUProf posting independent numbers. I’m sure many here are familiar with these numbers. The problem isn’t fan support and donations... that’s a symptom of the disease. The core illness is the administrative support and lack thereof. They can claim otherwise, but numbers don’t lie. [ If money was the only answer shouldn’t we have just faced the defending National Champion? Pickens spends even more money than phil on their program and it hasn’t made them elite. They're not elite but they are a much better program than they were before Pickens gave them truckloads of money. They had long stretches before '03 where they stumbled into a few bowl games here and there and even had some very good seasons, but those season were surrounded by some bad football. Even their years of winning while they were in the Big 8 were not that impressive considering that the Kansas schools, Iowa State and Missouri were absolute pushovers at the time (and there were plenty of years where Okla. St. was the fifth pushover in that league). The Big 12 plays good ball right now and Okla St. is often sniffing around the top of the conference as of late. Unfortunately for them, they haven't been able to get past Oklahoma which has also has tons of money and a far better tradition, to boot.

Not a lot of defense in the Big 12 right now.

I would agree with you about Oklahoma, but Clemson was not that good when Dabo took over and they were still not good in his first couple of years.

I thought I read ok st. Was a top 3 offense over the last decade? If so, we truly saw the best offense we will see this year except maybe WSU, who has been hot on O the last few years. Should have a clearer picture of the D by Sunday morning, although Hawaii looks to have a good O as well. Go Beavs!
