I saw this article too and was gonna post it myself. Hard to argue with much here. I get that the Spring Game has never been much of a draw at OSU, but it was an opportunity to be more than it was and has been for sure. Fans need something to be excited about in the AD, not even the baseball team is giving us much as of late. I went to the game expecting to see a game, and that's what I saw. I didn't need mimes, jugglers, guys being shot out of cannons and other circus acts to be entertained, nor did I expect them. But you did get a mime! That was the PA announcer.

We could have put on a 'big show'...but I think it costs $$$ to do so...we don't have a lot of extra $$$ for optional stuff like making the spring 'game' a big event

Since season tix renewal deadline was Friday did they have seats marked that were available?
Did they try to encourage those there without to "try on" those open seats?

No. Impossible to turn things around that quickly. If you were renewing by snail mail they haven't even gotten your renewal form yet. But the entire stadium was open, except the east side upper deck so fans could check out almost every level. I sat in the second level of the west side, stood along the Beaver Street rail, and also spent a quarter on the lower east side. All great seats.

As a season ticket holder, I will get my time "on the clock", much like the NFL draft, to pick my seats anywhere in the stadium, based on my priority points. If I want to stay exactly where I am (East Side), nothing happens. If I want to move, thus the priority pick. Out of 51,126 potential ticket holders, I am in the 5,800's. We will see what is available when I get my time. Once season ticket holders are all given a chance to move/ upgrade, then the rest hit the open market - I guess!

I have seats on the West (4) and East (2). But, the issue with new folks is that who wants to commit $ to a section without knowing the seats. You pay, no refund possible, then get row or seats that you don't want. Plus, you can literally buy seats at single game pricing for a fraction of most season tix locations. So, why commit to unknown season seats? The OSU ticket office (and I've got two long time friends who have worked many frustrating years there) is one of the most inept I've ever dealt with. No reason to go into detail as many on here have had numerous negative interactions. Luckily there are some very good people there that have tried to fix, make up for lax, if not stupid policies.

Format is a true game, orange vs black, over 4 quarters of running 15 mins. Due to depth, many linemen are wearing white and playing for both teams. I'm half watching on TV while doing a couple other things, but here are my observations: Offense was ineffective in the 1st half, halftime score was 3-0. Passing game shows signs of life, albeit with several missed connections on long balls, but running game was not impressive to me. The 4th quarter is about to start, and offense is improved, with both teams scoring a TD in the 3rd quarter (however one was after an interception and runback to midfield). My biggest takeaway: Chip Kelly's influence is now pervasive at Reser Stadium. This looks like a Kelly spread offense. Lots of read option, and from what I can see, McCoy is a good QB to run it. Another big observation: Seems like every 3rd or 4th play is a screen pass to a RB. Tons of RB involvement in the passing game. I really wonder now if the change in offense played a big part in Martinez's decision to leave. Maybe not a primary factor, but there was nothing really here football/experience-wise that was keeping him here...This is what I believe. I think Martinez was naive enough to believe that we’d be able to run the same offense under Bray. Spring practice showed him otherwise.

Understood on all points. Thank you for the refresher - I couldn't remember some 20 odd years ago when we first purchased tickets, if we could pick seats out before purchasing. What I remember, is we committed to family pack seats, we purchased them, and later we got "assigned" seats in the north end zone.
My continued irritation, as we discussed here last year, is being asked as a preferred season ticket holder to pay gazillions of dollars for west side seats, then see those same seats for sale to the general public for pennies on the dollar. Seems like an awful way to say thank you for your support these past 20 years. Look, I get it - they are trying to maximize dollars for the program. But, still doesn't sit well. Especially this year, with all of the sh*t that has gone down in the past 12 months. It really was the main reason I was there on Saturday - to show support for the program.

Easy to kick a man when he’s down, even while sucking off the Ducks’ dick. That is one perspective - the other is an encouragement for us to do more, especially given what we are facing, the situation we are in. IDK - I think being open to suggestions is a good thing.

So what’s the solution? That is the salient question. My suggestion? Shrink the gap between the ask of season ticket holders, and the prices charged by the university to one and done non season ticket holders. If the open market on Seat Geek, etc is X for a ticket to Y game, it is not reasonable to expect season ticket holders to pay a multiple of 3, 5 or 10 times that price.
I think it is, or should be, everyone's goal to have a full Reser stadium for each home game, and for me (easy for me to say), I would rather have a full Reser at a lower average ticket price, than a half full Reser at a much higher average ticket price. You create resentment when as a season ticket holder you are sitting next to someone that is all giddy they got their seat for $20.00 on Seat Geek, and you paid $200.00 as a "loyal" season ticket holder. Tough issue - not gonna lie.

My advice is stop worrying about it. Sometimes you get the bear, and sometimes the bear gets you.

I'm also curious about the organizational structure and how efficient we are in getting players/plays in and out. Does there look to be confusion or communication issues, etc? Special Teams... any special teams play of significance? Kickoff depth, how the ball off the foot of the kicker/punter looked in terms of "pop"?? Tackling... supposedly a huge emphasis was on tackling and tackling angles, tackling in space... how does it look? I thought the defense hit well. They look like a tough defense to tey and do things against

My advice is stop worrying about it. Sometimes you get the bear, and sometimes the bear gets you. How is the secondary selling price unfair to the school? They received their asking price, after that they are not involved. OSU places tickets on the secondary market. If people want to buy those or mine it's an open market place. Just like their practice of selling single game seats for astronomically low pricing vs season tix in some sections. Does that mean those buyers are unfairly treated or just chose to spend their $ that way. Most people care about spending wisely so the "bear" matters. And if I pay OSU's price they are hurt if I sell for more or do they gain if I sell for less. In fact they gain either way as there are butts in the seats spending $ inside Reser. FYI... those that also care about the "bear" and want great seats on the west wait. Instead of paying $2300+/seat for season tickets between the 40s, buy 1 or 2 season tickets in VV, $410 + fee. As a season ticket holder you are then 1st in line to buy single game seats anywhere available. You can get (2,3,4) great seats for less than the one season ticket. Use the VV or sell. Again OSU gets their ask and they get folks in Reser. I got (6) extra seats, 4 for friends (6 games in Sec 233 top row, aisle, $1800 total) they reimbursed, and two VV (sold for over the $430 paid). One seat in that section was like $2360. The toal for all 6 was just over $2200. Did OSU lose on their own pricing scheme? This year will be interesting how they will price single games with this schedule.
