Maybe some of you should get on Oklahomas message board and tell them how great beers is. I prefer players that stuck with us.

It's the WCC move. It's the most glaringly obvious answer. They are moving from the Pac-12 to the WCC. Sorry, but that's huge. That doesn't mean we're all overlooking the NIL issues facing OSU (and every other university) moving forward. Of course it's the move to the WCC. And the inability of six players to see that WCC or not, they were better off and would go much further next year as a whole by sticking together than they will be as individuals by all leaving and going to different places. TVO was gone either way, and Martha just wasn't good enough. They made their beds, they can lie in them, it's their life. Let's see which one of them gets to within nine points of a Final Four next season. Last week, I was in Eastern Oregon having dinner in a small restaurant , wearing a Beaver hat, when the owner walks by and says Go Beavs! We answered Go Beavs, and began chatting about the demise of the Pac-12 and various changes going on in OSU's many sports. After a few minutes, this owner brought up the demise of WBB, saying she was quite close to that situation, stating her and her husband were close personal friends to the Schuler family. In fact Mr. Schuler was joining them this week for Turkey Hunting. She went on to tell us what a dedicated player Kennedie was and how hard she has worked over the years to attain her goal of playing major college basketball.. Our conversation soon led to the question of what really happened to the OSU WBB program.? She told us about the team meeting that was held, and every player having an opportunity to speak, after which every team member was crying and hugging other teammates. So, we inquired what thereal reason was for the breakup and we were told....Money. Simple as that. NIL. Kennedie then told the group that she was staying, she is very happy in Corvallis, and has always wanted to represent OSU as a player and role model, and she has always wanted to be a Beaver. We told her to give Kennedie a message from 3 Beaver fans, on the outside looking in, that she, and the other players who are staying will always be remembered by this loyalty they have shown and will have a special place in the hearts of many.

Or, the WCC was the driving reason and 3 or 4 players got good NIL deals to boot.

At the time of the team meeting/hugathon, the money that each person was going to get was unknown. It would seem that they had no doubt heard that so and so elsewhere was getting X, they thought they would get something like X, and the OSU collective could only come up with Y. The difference between X and Y, then, must have been substantial enough to outweigh all the positives of staying that we've rehashed many times.
Grayman is correct, then. If our NIL money is not enough to keep a Beers or Gardiner, even after all the good stuff of their first two years, there is zero chance we'll be able to recruit a future Beers or Gardiner, or a Hunter for that matter. Unless one of us wins a $750 million Powerball, and makes a ton of that available to the WBB program, our fall is permanent.
I cannot find the words to convey how despondent I am about the future of college sports, and how livid I am at the NCAA, its member conferences, and many of its member institutions for allowing this to happen. I've been a college sports fan for 65 years, and I just hate the idea of it going away on me.
But going away it is, more and more with each passing week. If our baseball team gets torn apart in the portal, which I expect to happen, that will end it for me.

If our baseball team gets torn apart in the portal, which I expect to happen, that will end it for me. The problem with that NIL scenario is that there were eight players (7, really) that were deciding to go to seven different schools with seven different NILs, possibly more for each school, and getting what was no doubt a wide variety of offers. So my guess is that they had all already decided against playing in the WCC and were just shopping for the best schools/NIL deals. I would like to know if an OSU NIL even had a chance to make counter offers. That is, of course, if there was enough money to do so.

Sure would be nice if Jensen Huang had the same frame of mine regarding Athletics like the other billionaire down south 40 miles or so.

The spare change in his pocket would create quite the NIL.

If our baseball team gets torn apart in the portal, which I expect to happen, that will end it for me. I totally get your pain. The NIL just opened the door for more cheating. More immature, shortsighted decisions. More greed. And more "power" to control and influence. I'm not sure there's a last sanctuary where this type of thing hasn't happened at some level. The problem with the thoughts in paragraph 1 is that they should not have known what to expect from "X". Players talk, but unless there is some extreme immaturity at play no NIL $ talk from a player is remotely a guarantee. And, if they had some collective talking it's illegal inducement to sign. Plus that would also mean they had to be talking to other schools well before the E8! The latter is probably a fact for a couple? As I know the one boisterous parent during the Pac12 tourney was complaining, and in so mentioned their daughter "... could make much more elsewhere..." So, $ was likely #1 for a few. The WCC is secondary but related as future NIL opportunities are probably reduced. I don't think the WCC as a level of competition was as much of a factor as the effect it would have on OSU's collective. As far as baseball... "torn apart"... meaning? OSU is "naturally" losing a nice chunk of their talent. And, they will lose to the portal. Always have. And they always have picked up nice pieces. Just as this season began with some big questions, so will next. But, in that vein it's one reason why I think the independent route was a mistake. As the premier team in the, let's go WCC, you will make connections and get transfer interest from the other members' best players. And, there is a lot of individual talent in every conference. But, I'm with you. I've lost a lot of my excitement to support either of my alma maters. I far more easily found reasons to give away tickets, watch or record. I didn't renew half our season football tix and there is no reason to worry I can't get more. The quarter billion+ investment that is Reser will most likely not come close to a capacity crowds very often. Gill the same. Goss?? I have no idea as NC games are routinely sparse at times, Fridays can be depending on start time. Now, they are all NC. There will be no building conference rivalries. Have no idea how fans will react... guessing the home schedule will determine a lot. On the flip side, I enjoy live college sporting events... occasional high school. And, there are plenty of other teams and athletes around my area at lower levels that would love the support. It would be a loss, but we've all had to deal with those in our lives.

Sure would be nice if Jensen Huang had the same frame of mine regarding Athletics like the other billionaire down south 40 miles or so. But why would he? Phil Knight was an athlete at UO and thus has a real connection to UO's athletic program, which he wants to see succeed. I don't think Jensen Huang has that kind of connection to OSU athletics.

One can hope. Boone Pickens wasn't an athlete and look what he did at okie state.

Any thoughts on who replaces her? Time to bring Mic or Syd in…. Why would we bring in a former player that has no collegiate experience. At least Aleah had experience recruiting and seeing how Duke practiced from a coaching perspective. She did have off the court interactions with players. What do Mik or Syd bring other than name and familiarity with the system. Scott needs to bring in two coaches one that coach the wings and guards. And another coach who can be the defensive coach similar to what Jonas did at a very high level. Maybe a coach that has experience in the WCC or maybe a DII or DIII head coach that has a great fit. I have to disagree sportsfan85. After watching and listening to Mik and Syd during their careers here at OS I could fill up the rest of this page with all the things Mik or Syd could bring to this program other than name and familiarity with the system. And if you have to ask me what those things are then I would venture to say that you did not see them very much during their time here. IMHO either Mik or Syd would be a great coach for the wings and guards, and either one but especially Mik would be a great defensive coach, and I think both would be dynamite recruiters. If either one or both of them are interested in the positions available I would hire them in a heartbeat!

For some to say it was not a downgraded conference then it is just whistling past a grave yard.

It's not the Pac-12, AS EVERYONE HAS ACKNOWLEDGED, but it most certainly is not "crap."

I am enjoying this conversation. Thank you for keeping it going. Entertainment on a different level.
OSU WBB, so many strange things have happened since seasons end, I’ve become num to all. One side of me tries to block it out. The other side Googles it twice a day for OSU WBB rumors.
Just when I decide sanities returned to Gill, Aleah leaves. WCC Gives us a logic reason to maintain a WBB team.
