This young man deserves to take the biggest stage in college baseball. A huge reason we are going to Omaha is because of his efforts on the mound this year, and his leadership off of it. Beaver Nation has your back, Luke.

He better be on that plane tomorrow. Then he better be putting Fullerton,Florida St,or LSU in the losers bracket. I'm sick of this "hang out" in the dugout crap.

I can't believe you would still want him on your team after knowing what he had done. I would disown my school and would not support the baseball program if that happened at LSU.

Sadly, the odds are that it has happened to a large segment of the LSU student population and baseball team (OSU as well). Surveys indicate 16% of men and 25% of women recall being molested as children. Other reports show that these incidents happen mostly within family units. So, on a 35 team roster, 5-6 players have been victims, and during the time LSU has been playing baseball, there most certainly have been perpetrators on the team (OSU as well). They just were not reported and convicted - which is most often the case. So, since this is a widespread problem that is not typically addressed, I'm thankful LH got the counseling he needed.

For those interested, read the Portland Tribune Article by Eggers. You may have a different view of the sitituation when you realize Luke may very well have these charges expunged from his record in August.

Thoughtful, if not sobering post, Bill. I understand BOTH sides of the aisle on this. Gut wrencher for sure.

But I'm not talking about victims. How would you feel if that was your niece? If I had a family member that was molested, I'd be in jail after I got with the perpetrator.

I have two daughters and totally understand where your coming from. I think the only thing that will set him free someday is if she forgives him but until then he needs others to show him forgiveness and if not you, then who. And Bill is right, it's easy to dump on the known offenses but there are many more not reported or other behaviors not known. I would adventure to guess you yourself have things in your life you don't want anyone to know. Our team can do it without him so him playing is more about him not us. More about him trying to overcome being a social pariah. If your unhappy with the enviorment that would bring us to this place then blame or be disgusted with lawmakers and voters.

I suspect this whole thread is going to be nuked by The Glove. With that said, I hope he is on the plane (assuming his teammates want him).

EugeneDave -- Abso-godDam-lutely---Luke BELONGS on that plane and on the field in Omaha. He is an OSU student in good standing who poses no threat to his instructors or fellow students. He's paid his debt to the legal system long before he ever enrolled at OSU.
As with all of its students, OSU OWES it to Luke to do everything it can to insure his current success as a student and future success in life in general. OSU should NOT choose the expedient, easy alternative of just making Luke disappear from the news by eliminating him from the team. OSU's first priority should be Luke's welfare; the PR aspects of the case should be secondary.
I feel strongly that the best alternative is to let PC handle Luke's situation. No other person is as close to the situation as Pat. He knows Luke best and what's best for OSU.
__________________________ __________________________ And as for you LSUSON....this is OSU's business, not LSU's. Obviously your motivations lie more with not having to face Luke on the mound because you know he'll kick your a$$.

This isn't about facing him. We have won enough NC's in baseball. If we win another this year that's great, but this goes beyond baseball. I get the forgiving part. I would just be pissed if my university offered him a scholly and knew before they offered of said offense.

I would just be pissed if my university offered him a scholly and knew before they offered of said offense. my 2 cents - and I absolutely don't blame you or anyone for feeling like he doesn't belong on the team. - I don't believe the school knew when they recruited him. Or I should say, most of the signs so far IMO point to the school or coaches not knowing (or at least a complete breakdown between departments both within the school and between the school and local authorities). This is another problem with the school dropping the ball on making a clear and concise statement. We don't know all the facts, so here we all are speculating.. - I believe in rehabilitation and 2nd chances for juvenile offenders. You say he can't be on the team. So what can or can't he do as he moves on with his life? Can he enroll in school? Can he become an engineer? a pharmacist? an accountant? anything but a pitcher? People seem to have arbitrarily drawn a line at sports teams & scholarships because many place a higher level of importance on athletics. He or any other juvenile sex offender could have received an academic scholarship and no one would know or care. Luke may have even received an academic scholarship as he was apparently a very good high school student and as we all know, you only get 11.7 baseball schollies to cover a maximum of 27 players.
