Suppose Neuheisel were to express interest in OSU job not only because he sees major potential in Corvallis just like Erickson and Riley before him, but also because he wants to elevate his son Jerry (currently GA at Texas A&M) as his QB coach. Would we take such interest seriously?
This would be a guy who has won at 2 Pac-12 schools (CU and UW) and has deep California and NW recruiting connections.
Granted - this is all moot if Neuheisel is done with coaching, and it wouldn't surprise me if he is.
On the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me if he isn't.

He has said on his radio show that he would come back to coaching if the right job became available. Just my personal bias but I would prefer someone who is younger and most likely hungrier.

I'm sure he would like to retire leaving a better image. What better image to have then putting the Beavs back in the Top 10 or, even Top 5. How would an Orange sweater vest look?? A skinny, Great Punkin'? |

Mike Riley was able to flip Brandin Cooks from UCLA under The Weasel. At least up through his time at UCLA, he was a generally terrible human being. He always has been. Real Eugene material. The last place that any true fan of Oregon State should be hoping that The Weasel winds up is in Corvallis. To hire the Weasel is to flush the Beaver tradition down the drain. In sum, no. |

He didn't inherit a lot of riches on the O-line and what he did have quickly became decimated by injuries which in turn meant his QB's also dropped like flies too. I don't care if it's UCLA or OSU if you don't have a line and you're down to your 3rd QB, it's tough sledding. He may have saved his job by pulling Hundley's redshirt in his last year, maybe not. The pressure was certainly there by the bright local LA media to do just that, so I do respect him for doing what he thought was right for Hundley and the longer term future of the program. I guess my main point is, IMO his wins and losses at UCLA had a lot more to do with misfortune of circumstance than coaching ineptitude. |

His best years were always in the first two with the previous coach's talent. Once they graduated, the team cratered. He is a bandaid, not a fix. My old boss was a friend of the family. He said that The Weasel family were a lot of fun to hang out with, but that he would not trust any of them as far as he could throw him. They were rich and still stole everything that was not bolted down. I still run into Weasel family members every once in awhile, although I have never met Slick RIck. However, from what i have seen, slimy is an understatement. |

At UW his AD asked him if the reports that he'd travelled to California to talk to 49'ers about HC position were true. He lied to her face and denied it. That ultimately cost him his job. Dishonesty and stupidity are a bad combination. Football wise I think he is very experienced and capable. |

At UW his AD asked him if the reports that he'd travelled to California to talk to 49'ers about HC position were true. He lied to her face and denied it. That ultimately cost him his job. Dishonesty and stupidity are a bad combination. Football wise I think he is very experienced and capable. Footballwise, I think that he is experienced but incapable. Each of his three teams tailed off after three years, after the last guy's recruits graduated. He can maintain the current team for two years. After that, he gets lost. He cannot coach offense. He cannot recruit. He is (or at least was) a bad human being. In short, he is a cancer. He has left each of the programs he was at in a worse spot than he found them. He is not the right guy for Oregon State. For lack of a better analogy, he is Hillary Clinton. He has a ton of experience, but most of his experience is middling to bad. |
