Regardless of your feeling towards Coach Riley, you've got to have a bit of empathy for the man. It's a sign of the times for Husker fans, but I'm sure they will put most of the blame on "Our Favorite Coach". I would be very surprised if he survives for the next game. If he is let go I hope he receives whatever money he is due per the contract. I hope he does not do what CGA did. Take the money. CGA should have done the same.

I don’t disagree with the main part of your message. But, is losing in overtime really whipped?

It hurts even more that it was in Lincoln. Tough (unrealistic, living in the past) crowd. I don't KNOW if MR could ever achieve enough success to appease those folks. I'm not sure ANYONE could.

Whipped? Overtime? Beat, yes. Whipped? You can see what your angle is. 3 picks will do that.

CGA didn't walk away from all the money. OSU still owed him $580,000 through the of the calendar year. It was his idea to quit. The lesson is if you don't enjoy what you are doing, quit doing it.

I'll not argue a point like this that I do not know for a fact, but... GA did not just up and leave all that $ on his own JUST because he wasn't enjoying himself. It doesn't "fit" his personal profile to just quit. The texts being released at the same time lead many to believe there was more to this than his quitting. GA's relationships, or lack thereof, within the athletic department was writing in the wall for some. The AD "speak" about his departure was in no way convincing. Bottom line, he's gone and OSU is not financially hamstrung. But, no one can convince me and many others GA is owed anything, especially gratitude. Nor believe it was just because it wasn't fun anymore... cuz there are many things about coaching that come up that aren't enjoyable.

I read some article last week by either Goe or Eggers, that Coach Andersen had moved back to Logan, Utah.

Except for the NFL, a contract is just that, an agreement between two or more parties. Unless it's a "quit or you will die tomorrow", if someone wants to end the agreement, you negotiate, especially if you're into 7 figures. It's not honorable to just quit and walk away. It's simply not being very smart. If nothing else, he owed it to his family. Their future lives could be affected if he, God Forbid, became disabled. It's just my opinion but, I hope no one ever finds out the real reason, if there is one. I did not like him for a coach but OSU still owed him that amount whether you, me or anyone else were convinced that he was owed that amount. OSU was not smart offering that amount and CGA was not smart for failing to negotiate to end the contract. That's all I have to say about that!

I really wasnt talking about the $500+k... although my phrasing made it seem so. It was more the praise for being "classy" or thinking of the school in leaving the money.

MR was never my favorite coach. I did. MR was not the favorite best coach. He was the favorite "person" coach. Tommy Prothro was the best, in my opinion. If MR was not so personable and did not have such an excess of integrity, and not quite so easy going he could possibly still be HC of the Chargers or, possibly not. Nebraska got what they thought they wanted; A coach that would not embarrass the University. MR didn't. The animal before him did. What they really want is another Dr. Tom. A person who will win at all cost and cover his tracks well doing it.
