What we really want is to not have the worst head coach in the Big Ten.

He is not a 'coach', he is an innocent bystander. Guy checked out years ago. Seems like he is 84 years old, not 64. Disinterested, Disengaged, Deflecting type of personality. His happiest day, for sure, was the 24 hours after he signed with the Huskers and he felt empowered to head a Big 10 program - full knowing that he would have ALL the support required to win Conference Championships and to get into the CFB playoffs. Plus, the big paycheck. What he failed to realize was that he, immediately, became the weakest link in that process. Had he ever won an outright PAC title ? No Had he ever won a big game that counted ? No, a few upsets here and there - but not ever meeting a challenge. Has he ever proven that he can make adjustments or hires to correct any of this ? No, stubborn and unable to change with the times. So, it was always a big experiment, no matter the situation , because Riley ( honestly ), is not a guy that thinks at all about 'how' to improve. He has figured out how to game the system and he has only improved his bank account - very undeservedly. SAD to have zero intellectual curiosity in the profession you choose.

Say what you want about him as a coach, that's what fan's do. And this is coming from someone who has always said if Riley went to a big school he'd fail and was happy he moved on.
But question the man's integrity, desire, "intellectual curiosity"? Infer that he's greedy? You are a dick.
Mike Riley is the exact opposite of everything you say in this ignorant editorial. He's 100% class, he gives his heart and soul to coaching, the kids in his program, the people that work for him, and most importantly, his family. What purpose is there to cross that line when you can just leave it at wins and losses.

Perhaps shelby’s rant was crossing the line but to say he is giving “his heart and soul” is a misnomer. If that was true, the Husker team would not be the mess that it is!

The difference between Nebraska and Oregon state fans as far as the coach is concerned - Nebraska fans expect to win and win often for far too long we as Beaver fans were "happy" with 6 wins and an occasional upset. We put up with Riley's record for far too long.

Coaches can't give their heart and soul to their job and still fail? Do you even pay attention to football? Any sport?

I knew I would get criticism. No big deal. What I am always amazed about is the 'fans' that were, and remain in the adoration process. Would you want your next airplane flight to be handled by a pilot that is 50/50, or that is bad at making adjustments when things are going south ? In my mind, if you are not setting and achieving high standards - you will always be 'average' or less. Call me pathetic - I believe you need to look in the mirror yourselves. I also believe that when you have zero investment in seeing a program succeed, you are not credible as a critic or supporter. But, hey, I love seeing OSU get National acclaim for their educational and athletic programs - baseball is a shining example, as is our engineering and other academic programs. Scott Rueck is a shining example. Why can't we( I do ), expect better in the money making sports ? I guess - it's not important to the MR due hards. This is a business, and most of you are treating it like it's an 'expected' money pit that does not affect the University's image or financial standing. Are you willing to invest money in a loser program? Look at what is happening at Nebraska right now, your buddy has driven fans and boosters out of the stadium and that, more than anything, will be the reason he gets canned. That and his non caring, smiling, arms crossed posture on the sidelines. I will take Pat Casey any day. That guy built the program and he is passionate and strategic, and he wins in the toughest sport there is. He does it right - and he is always upgrading the team and the facilities. Need a new stadium or more seats - no problem, the fans are there and so are the donors. Try to finish the football stadium - what ? No fan support, no money ! Why ? Cause we keep accepting mediocrity. This next hire will be very important. If we don't get it right.... guess what will happen ? I don't even have to guess, I guarantee that my 4 season tickets , and my drive from Portland, and my other academic and athletic donations,( except for baseball and wbb ), are going to be replaced by something more fun and more interesting. Go ahead, blame and criticize... but, I put my money behind winners and seeing some progress. I am not willing to go through another 3-4 years of rebuilding. I cannot believe that 'some of you' would even consider riley coming back. That is embarrassing !

I don't want Riley back, but I'd take a coach just like him in a heartbeat. The reason we need to rebuild is because he left... or are you saying we're still rebuilding from Prothro leaving?

Shelby: There are so many holes in your statements that I'm not even going to waste time pointing them out. I'd venture to say that many here don't disagree with some of your thoughts, but your personal attacks and vitriol erase any (although rare) valid points that you make. That's all.
